"More like 3.5 than 4 stars. Sara Crewe's perfection resembles Little Lord Fauntleroy's, and can be slightly annoying at times in its unbelievable nature. I also found the ending a little disturbing since I now have my adult glasses on. (view spoiler)[Seriously, to have a man adopt his best friend's pretty little daughter and doll her up for his own pleasure is rather strange. (hide spoiler)] But Melchisedec and the power of imagination are pretty awesome. Much as books shouldn't 'preach' or teach, I feel that the lessons A Little Princess provides for young girls are truly invaluable ones."

" One of my favorite reads, right up there with any Lucy Maud Montgomery (Anne of Green Gables or Emily of New Moon) or Louisa May Alcott (Little Women, Eight Cousins, etc.). I thoroughly enjoy the story of a sweet girl who encounters a drastic change in her life, taking her from a life of leisure to a life of drudgery. What's so refreshing is her attitude and actions. She chooses to behave like a princess, whether she is dressed in finery or rags. Great model for all girls. "

" I grew up watching the movie when I was younger, so I decided to read the book. And I enjoyed it for the most part. But it was hard to get through. I'm sure it was just the style of writing back then, but everything had so many details. I think details are great and make stories enjoyable, but this book detailed literally everything. I'm just not very interested to know every piece of information about a rat's family for a whole chapter. I know it emphasizes how caring and genuine Sara is, but it bore me. However, when the story was lively and had interesting dialogue and plots going on, it was a great book. I think there are some really great messages in the story. It really emphasizes imagination and how wonderful it can be. It also focuses on behaving like a princess no matter what. Even though I'm older than Sara, I'm going to try to remember these two things and behave like a caring princess towards others. "

" I can't remember the first time I read this However, even re-reading it as a teenager, it still drew me in and left me with a content, positive outlook on life. I hope this is one of the first books my children will read if I ever have any, and I hope they will love it as much as I did (and do) "

" I love the hope and dreamy imagination that transpires in this book about facing tragedy and hardship with grace. It is a romantic idea, which reads as one book when you are young and another once you are all grown up. May we all have dolls and rats as nice as hers. "

" Lovely book. Not only was it a fantastic story, but I believe that Sara Crewe is someone to look up to even if she is a child, she reminds "just before things get to the very worst. It is as if the Magic did it. If I could only just remember that always. The worst thing never QUITE comes." "
