The #1 New York Times bestseller from Stephen King—a novel about the fascination deadly things have for us and about our insistence on answers when there are none…
Since 1979, the state police of Troop D in rural Pennsylvania have kept a secret in the shed out behind the barracks. Ennis Rafferty and Curtis Wilcox had answered a strange call just down the road and came back with an abandoned 1953 Buick Roadmaster. Curt Wilcox knew old cars, and this one was…just wrong. As it turned out, the Buick 8 was worse than dangerous—and the members of Troop D decided that it would be better if the public never found out about it. Now, more than twenty years later, Curt’s son Ned starts hanging around the barracks and is allowed into the Troop D family. And one day he discovers the family secret—a mystery that begins to stir once more, not only in the minds and hearts of these veteran troopers, but out in the shed as well, for there’s more power under the hood than anyone can handle….

"A strange book to read! LOL!!! Stephen King is the master at unrequited endings! This book would be a fine example of that. Sometimes things just happen in his books and there is no explanation or nothing really resolved at the end! If that doesn't bother you, then this will be a fantastic book. If it DOES bother you, then you will probably just find this a "Good Book""

“It’s still a horror novel, but it’s one that gnaws away at the very premises of the horror novel. It knows what you want and expect from it, but it deftly gives you something else instead, something equally worth having and all the more pleasing for being a surprise.”
— New York Times“King’s still on fire when it comes to creating breathing characters and evocative settings. His own zest for storytelling suggests…that he’s got plenty left.”
— Entertainment Weekly“Will surely keep you turning pages…Whether this novel’s quasi-postmodern current of ambiguity and skepticism signals a new direction in King’s work remains to be seen, but the greatest pop writer of them all is back behind the wheel.”
— Salon“One of King’s best, mostly tightly focused novels since The Green Mile. With great narrative economy, it encompasses 25 years in the interconnected lives of a diverse group of characters, and its unmistakable, deeply familiar voice is as haunting and engaging as ever…King continues to command the hypnotic power that has made him one of the dominant figures in modern popular culture.”
— Barnes & Noble, editorial review" Form some reason, this book had a difficult time holding my attention. It took me months to read it. It was ok, but in my opinion, not one of King's best efforts. "
— BJ, 2/11/2014" my first stephen king read. loved it! "
— Kiesha, 1/31/2014" One of those portal to another world books, done quite well in fact. "
— Potatoez, 1/26/2014" I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. I expected this to be a Christine rehash and it was nothing like the earlier novel. "
— Joani, 1/11/2014" Good, but not great. For my first Stephen King book I guess my expectations were probably too high. He is a known as best-selling author though; I think I'll give him another chance. :) "
— Erica, 12/31/2013" I couldn't even get thru this book. Last SK book I ever picked up. "
— Rose, 12/26/2013" Harder to follow than some of his work, I think b/c so much of it was written in the style of a campfire story. Or perhaps just not as engaging as some of his other stories. "
— Wendy, 12/21/2013" It is a story divided into dialogues instead of chapters, so for some this would be difficult to understand, but otherwise it is a good story. "
— Zeleona, 12/17/2013" I actually completely loved this book...it's the magic of Stephen King. Not recommended for those who can't suspend belief...but I can do that at the drop of a hat. Such a fun, old-time King read! "
— Jane, 12/5/2013" The buildup was a little slow for me, but by about half way through, I was hooked. And, by the end, I wanted more. "
— Vicki, 10/15/2013" Awesome book - looking for it in a hard cover. "
— Sharon, 9/14/2013" One of his better stories I thought. I also liked the authors note at the end. "
— Carolyn, 8/31/2013" Fun and fast read. A very unusual way to write a story, at least I think. "
— Brandon, 7/26/2013" B; not the best King, but okay. "
— Cathy, 7/11/2013" A new, more mature spin on Christine. "
— Scott, 5/24/2013" Stephen King is definitely a good storyteller. I can appreciate this particular one based on an understanding that not everything can be explained. You have to accept that premise in order to be satisfied. "
— Joel, 4/3/2013" Just finished reading it, he has written better. "
— Ron, 3/1/2013" I really got into this book. I'm still not sure how I liked the ending though. "
— Andrea, 12/25/2012" Not a fan. I hadn't read King in awhile when I picked this one up, very disappointed. I didn't read another King book after this until The Dome, and the jury is still out on that one.. "
— Erin, 8/4/2012" Another tie into the Dark Tower series. A great stand alone read and nothing at all like "Christine". "
— James, 6/21/2012" this was weird. Things coming out of cars??? "
— Olivia, 3/2/2012" To be honest this is the first Stephen King novel I have read, and I picked this book up because there were no other choices. I can see why he is such a popular author- by the time I finished reading this I felt like I had just finished watching a really great movie. "
— Jennifer, 2/16/2012" I actually listened to this on tape. I tried reading the book and couldn't get into it. Listening to it in the car, though, was really good. I could hear the story without trying to get into it. "
— Samantha, 8/22/2011" i really liked this though it took me a while to get into it, it wasn't as scary as some of the other stephen king books but it was well written and i really enjoyed it "
— Amy, 7/15/2011" OK read but not as rewarding as some other King books. Not one I would highly recommend. The narrative is OK but I never really cared about the characters. "
— Dan, 5/20/2011" Typical Stephen King book, nothing special. "
— Chris, 5/13/2011" Got this in a used bookstore and was afraid it would be similar to Christene. However, it was not like Christene and I thought not as good as Christene but he has great development of characters in this book. "
— Tonycorvelli, 4/1/2011" I am a huge King fan so I hated to give this book only 2 stars, but I really just could not get into this book. I did have to finish it though...one of those crazies that once I start a book, I have to finish it, even if I hate it. "
— Carla, 3/16/2011" Excellent writing style - very descriptive; however this story is a bit outrageous, even for this genre... "
— Derek, 3/15/2011" One of my favs. Along the lines of Christine buy not. Any cop or car enthusiast will love this one. Can't go wrong with a Stephen King!! "
— SJuhl4, 3/9/2011" The very best (aside from Dead Zone) thing King ever wrote. "
— Jennie, 3/7/2011" Well, Stephen doesn't disappoint. Not exactly terror, but the main idea of this book, a car not from earth....well, with all the things that car does....the implications are scary..Rather enjoyed. "
— Laurence, 3/3/2011" What can I say? Stephen King is his own genre. "
— Laurie, 2/13/2011" First Stephen King book that I'm going to say was just ok for me. Interesting, semi-plausible, nerve-wracking at times, but on the whole just a sort of unsatisfying story. "
