Christine McKinley grew up in Alaska, and then attended Catholic school in California, despite not being Catholic. There she learned about Jesus walking on the water in New Testament class and the laws of buoyancy in physics class. In the confusion, she interpreted the laws of physics as guiding life principles. Ms. McKinley’s love of physics propelled her to get a mechanical engineering degree. Her fascination with biblical history inspired her to ride through the Holy Land on a bicycle. Ms. McKinley is a professional engineer, performing musician, and host of Brad Meltzer’s Decoded on the History Channel. Her musical about physics and Catholic school, “Gracie and the Atom,” received an NEA grant and a 2010 Portland Drammy Original Score award. She still uses the laws of physics for guidance and inspiration. |
