Publisher Description

It's been seven years since the Seattle Strangler terrorized the city. His victims were all young, pretty, their lifeless bodies found wrapped in a home-sewn white dress. But there was one who miraculously escaped death, just before the Strangler disappeared.

Lara Church has only hazy memories of her long-ago attack. What she does have is a home in Austin, a job, and a chance at a normal life at last. Then Texas Ranger James Beck arrives on her doorstep with shattering news: The Strangler is back. And this time, he's in Austin.

He's always craved her, even as he killed the others. For so long he's been waiting to unleash the beast within. And this time, he'll prove he holds her life in his hands—right before he ends it forever...

"The more I read by Mary the more I like her. This story kept me guessing. I thought I figured out the killer, but then another detail would be revealed and I wasn't so sure. Once one mystery was solved, I still wasn't sure what was going to happen. I would have expected a little more sexual tension between Lara and Beck, but it was still well balanced. Well worth the read."

" 3.75 stars. Well-written suspenseful thriller with nicely developed characters, story, and plot twists. Some dark and disturbing content, but not overwhelming. The romance was secondary to the suspense, but also nicely integrated into the story. "

" 3.5 stars. A good thriller with a chilling premise ... the serial killer who won't let go. The writing is good, and the main character is very sympathetic and admirable in her desperation and courage, while the male lead is strong, smart and very alpha. My main complaint is a twist at the very end ... it wasn't necessary, and it almost ruined the book for me. "

" Medium grade serial killer suspense. It doesn't qualify as romantic suspense since there's no romance until the very end -- and its weak. Narrator Johanna Parker makes it sound a lot better than it actually is. "

" This book was dull. D-U-L-L. The prose was lifeless, the plot was thin, and the "twist" ending was incredibly obvious. It wasn't a terrible book, but it seemed amateurish and I'm surprised that the author has written over a dozen books. "
