When Mio sneaks the family's katana—a priceless ancestral sword—from her parents' attic, she just wants to spice up a costume. But the katana is much more than a dusty antique. Awakening the power within the sword unleashes a terrible, ancient evil onto the streets of unsuspecting modern-day London. But it also releases Shinobu, a fearless warrior boy, from the depths of time. He helps to protect Mio—and steals her heart. With gods and monsters of Japanese myth stalking her and her friends, Mio realizes that if she cannot keep the sword safe and learn to control its legendary powers, she will lose not only her own life—but the love of a lifetime. About the Author
Zoë Marriott is the author of the young adult fantasy novels The Swan Kingdom, Daughter of the Flames, and Shadows on the Moon. About The Name of the Blade, her first foray into urban fantasy, she says, “This was probably the most pure fun I’ve had writing since I left school. I’ve loved every minute of it. It feels like this story and these characters were a gift from the universe lobbed at me, and I was so lucky that my hands happened to be outstretched at the right moment, ready to catch them.”
About the Narrator

Sarah Coomes trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and spent three blissful years there, learning how to cry, speak Shakespeare, and stage fight like a tiger. She is a comedienne and an actress, appearing in numerous television shows in England, including a recurring role as Nurse Leonard in the popular series EastEnders. She won the 2008 Westminster Prize for her play Hookie and an AudioFile Earphones Award for her narration of The Unforgotten Coat by Frank Cottrell Boyce in 2011.
