"This book was brilliantly written. It gets you guessing and trying to figure out who and what. The ending was unexpected and when finishing this book I was really quite dissapointed that it had ended. Brilliantly written.A first for me with this author but won't be the last. "
— Sammi (4 out of 5 stars)
" Too many minor characters; too many side stories that aren't resolved and don't play in to the story well. It was entertaining, but not one I'd urge a friend to read. "
— Maggie, 2/11/2014" The plot was quite compelling, but the characters themselves were dullards. "
— Sam, 2/7/2014" A good read which pulls you through whilst keeping you guessing. Until the end unfortunately, when it seems as though we are in a race to finish. Shame, but that dictates the three stars. "
— James, 2/3/2014" Fun, quirky, kept me reading. I particularly like the heroine's voice. "
— Laura, 2/2/2014" It may not be my favorite Sophie Hannah book, but in my eyes she can do no wrong. "
— Meghan, 1/22/2014" Sophie Hannah's books are...interesting. The plots are fascinating but get lost amid a whole bunch of unnecessary characters and subplots. At the same time, these annoyances help to alleviate some of the heaviness her plots contain. This is the third book I've read of Hannah's and was my least favorite. I'll continue reading her books because of those fascinating storylines but maybe just do one a year. "
— Carley, 1/19/2014" what a waste of my valuable time. "
— Autumn, 1/18/2014" Lots of well written characters, different narrators and literary techniques keep this book interesting. One main character tails off and all but disappears without much explaination and the ending is a bit rushed so good but not great. "
— Hannah, 1/14/2014" This book was twists and turns from start to finish. Only in the last two chapters did I accurately guess who the Killer was. Thrilling! I didn't think I'd be able to finish it at first but once I was in I couldn't let it go "
— Lilian, 1/6/2014" Just couldn't get into it. GAve up about 1/4 way through. I just didn't care about the characters. "
— Carole, 12/23/2013" Bought this for 50 cents at a sale. Spent too much. "
— Deb, 12/6/2013" I enjoyed it until I was about three quarters through when I thought it was OTT and long-winded. Not sure it was believable. I rather liked the way one chapter was written in first person (only one character)and the next was third person, etc. "
— Penny, 11/10/2013" Really slow to get started and get into the story. The story was quite good, controversial in some respects but still got me thinking. The ending was much better than the rest of the book, fast paced and interesting. Not sure if I would read it again though "
— Megan, 10/13/2013" A bit confusing in the middle... "
— Christine, 7/21/2013" The book kept my interest and had some twists I didn't expect. This is the first Sophie Hannah novel I've read and it made me interested to read some of her other work. "
— Melyssa, 4/1/2013" Guess they changed the name of this book for the U.S. release -- now it's called "Cradle in the Grave." "
— Corinna, 3/7/2013" Really didnt work for me. I love psychological thrillers but this one was not a mind blowing thriller. I found it long and boring "
— Christina, 9/5/2012" By far the best of Sophoe Hannah's books i have read so far. As ever i tend to ignore the personal police relationships and concentrate on the rest of the book. Loved the twists and turns. "
— Sue, 9/2/2012" Keep waiting for something chilling like with Little Face but it was more mystery than thriller... "
— Cate, 1/24/2012" I ended up enjoying this read. She kept me guessing until the end. "
— Cindy, 1/20/2012" interesting take on crib death and politics around it "
— Leslie, 10/30/2011" So boring...who cares about cot death "
— Ryan, 10/29/2011" I just could not get into this book. I really tried. I hardly ever give up on a book, but the writing just didn't hook me. "
— Debbie, 10/26/2011" Sophie Hannah's writing style is top-notch, and I love the twists and turns her plots take. I had a little trouble with this one because the cast of characters was especially large. I was also hoping for a little more resolution than I got. "
— Laurel, 10/23/2011" So did Helen kill her sons or not? "
— Michelle, 10/17/2011" Not as good as her others. <br/> "
— Renee, 10/9/2011" I love Sophie Hannah's books and have read all of them so far....this was another good one!! "
— Teresa, 10/2/2011" Great crime, new author, will read another. "
— Karen, 9/15/2011" I have been enjoying all of Sophie Hannah's books, but this one did not really engage me or, I think, live up to the quality of the previous books in this series. Too bad. But I'll keep reading, because I have to know how things go with Simon and Charlie. "
— Katie, 9/10/2011" Twists and turns but too many characters to follow at the beginning. "
— Jamie, 9/10/2011" I might have given this one 5 stars if the main character hadn't been such an irritating ninny. "
— Kate, 9/8/2011" I loved this. A crime story with a dollop of humour. Really original and fresh "
