"Much better in the original French than in translation, Christian jacq brings ancient Egypt to life as though he actually lived there. Based on historically accurate detail his stories are both captivating and informative and one gets a real feel for the pharaonic culture and plotocs of the era. This and the four volumes that follow are a brilliant expose for the modern world of how life used to be, although he largely avoids the seamyier side of life that must have existed among the less privileged classes. Damn good reading all the same.."

" An enjoyable read, especially for anyone with an interest in Egyptian history. I'm certainly going to be reading the other books. Christian Jacq has a fantastic way of really capturing both the splendour of the landscape and the common humanity that links all people, past and present. "

" A Wonderful rendition of both Pharaohs Seti I and Ramses II. I am always curious about what the people in history were really like. I suppose this is as close as I can get to these two characters. They seem close enough to my imagination at least. "

Christian Jacq has done a lot of research and knows so much about Ancient Egypt that he is able to recreate even the details ( such as what they ate, or the smell they felt when they changed places, the trees they planted, the architecture, etc...) " Inaccurate as a frozen Hell. Moses and Ramses being best buds...really? If you can overlook that (and a bunch of other surprises) then this book is pretty enjoyable. More like a teen-read really though, or a coming of age story, Ancient Egypt style. "
