" Much better in the original French than in translation, Christian jacq brings ancient Egypt to life as though he actually lived there. Based on historically accurate detail his stories are both captivating and informative and one gets a real feel for the pharaonic culture and plotocs of the era. This and the four volumes that follow are a brilliant expose for the modern world of how life used to be, although he largely avoids the seamyier side of life that must have existed among the less privileged classes. Damn good reading all the same.. "

" An enjoyable read, especially for anyone with an interest in Egyptian history. I'm certainly going to be reading the other books. Christian Jacq has a fantastic way of really capturing both the splendour of the landscape and the common humanity that links all people, past and present. "

" I liked this. Never read more in the series despite the unanswered plot threads. I thought it was decent if a little fanciful. I would not consider it accurate but an interesting read about Ancient Egypt. "

" A Wonderful rendition of both Pharaohs Seti I and Ramses II. I am always curious about what the people in history were really like. I suppose this is as close as I can get to these two characters. They seem close enough to my imagination at least. "

" Loved this book...brought Ramses to life for me! Couldn't wait to get started on the second book. "

" Well written and surprisingly a very good book. Christian Jacq has done a lot of research and knows so much about Ancient Egypt that he is able to recreate even the details ( such as what they ate, or the smell they felt when they changed places, the trees they planted, the architecture, etc...) "

" I have never read anything about Ramses, and this book was both interesting and a relatively fast read. I'll be reading the others in this series. "

" Inaccurate as a frozen Hell. Moses and Ramses being best buds...really? If you can overlook that (and a bunch of other surprises) then this book is pretty enjoyable. More like a teen-read really though, or a coming of age story, Ancient Egypt style. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Michelle Dudson | 1/6/2013

" Great book, I learned about Egyptian history, the Pharaohs and names of some of the gods etc... very good read! "

" Read it in french(french person) along with the four following and that was stunning.I especially liked the school/teen years, battle scene when he's in godlike mode and the end ,with the fidel scribe now alone, leaning under the tree that Ramses once planted, once so young.. "

Le temps est suspendu et l'on est imprégné de cette Egypte de l'époque des pharaons. "
