Award-winning author, Sharon G. Flake, presents a powerful novel about a teen boy and girl, each tackling disabilities. Autumn and Adonis have nothing in common and everything in common. Autumn is outgoing and has lots of friends. Adonis is shy and not so eager to connect with people. But even with their differences, the two have one thing in common--they're each dealing with a handicap. For Autumn, who has a learning disability, reading is a painful struggle that makes it hard to focus in class. But as her school’s most aggressive team wrestler, Autumn can take down any problem. Adonis is confined to a wheelchair. He has no legs. He can't walk or dance. But he’s a strong reader who loves books. Even so, Adonis has a secret he knows someone like Autumn can heal. In time, Autumn and Adonis are forced to see that our greatest weaknesses can turn into the assets that forever change us and those we love. Told in alternating voices, Pinned explores issues of self-discovery, friendship, and what it means to be different.

"This YA novel about two teenagers, Autumn, a female champion wrestler and Adonis, the disabled boy she adores. The narration alternates point of view between the two main characters, who author Sharon Flake has drawn so vividly, though Autumn's voice seems to be much stronger than Adonis's. A very poignant tale."

“The unflinching honesty with which Flake approaches her characters is what sells this story; the romantic tension and fiery back-and-forth between these headstrong teens and their respective efforts to make the most of their lives, only sweeten the deal.”
— Publishers Weekly“Flake creates two compelling characters—an irresistible force and an immovable object—and sets them on a trajectory to unseat the other’s deepest assumptions…Complex and multilayered.”
— Children’s Literature“Unique and interesting…the novel has a well-meaning message.”
— School Library Journal“An uplifting story that convincingly celebrates the power of perseverance.”
— Kirkus Reviews" My students love this book!!! They ask to read it daily. Thanks for having this book on audio!!! "
— margo, 9/19/2017" I like this book and the characters. Autumn is an out-of-the-box kind of character and one that I came to care about. I did find the reading choppy but that may be because it's an unedited copy. I'll have to wait and see a published copy to see if the chapters and writing flow better. "
— Maggie, 2/10/2014" the best book ever' "
— Loven, 2/2/2014" An okay story sharing dual perspectives of the two main characters. Terribly anti-climatic. Slow without much of an ending. No real resolution, although I do understand the author's stylistic choice not to have one. "
— Eryn, 2/2/2014" I read this book with certain 5th and 6th grade girls in mind. I think they would like the book, because they are really interested in romance, and this has just enough to keep them interested. Personally, I was driven a little crazy by Adonis' personality, Autumn's hero worship of him and the number of times Autumn said "ain't". But, I don't think this would bother my students as much. The ending was very satisfying, because it wrapped up loose ends. "
— Dagmar, 2/2/2014" Dang dang dang dang. I was SO excited for this one. :( "
— Eden, 1/25/2014" Reviewed for ALAN. Will post link soon. "
— Alethea, 1/15/2014" A female wrestler has a huge crush on the manager of the team, who happens to be in a wheelchair. But Autumn's grades are going to keep her off the team if she isn't careful. "
— Susan, 11/27/2013" I met Sharon Flake right after she released her first book, The Skin I'm In. I learn so much about urban culture from her books. My students will read this book like crazy! "
— Kimberly, 11/24/2013" It's never a good sign when you have to keep double checking who is speaking in a dual narration novel. This was a decent story about hope, persistence, and overcoming obstacles, but the organization of the story was too scattered and the romance felt forced. "
— Carrie, 11/17/2013" Ms. Flake painted a convencing portrait of parents rising above their limited self knowledge to give their daughter a chance at a better life. "
— Desiree, 11/7/2013" Sharon Flake's new read is a great one! Sports-wrestling, friendship, romance, physical disabilities, learning difficulties, and dreams. For those who loved The Skin I'm In, gotta read Pinned. Great read for both guys and girls. Love Sharon Flake! "
— Mrs., 10/29/2013" Nice character reversal. Very high interest and I think teens will really enjoy this. "
— Lynn, 9/8/2013" I'd give it a 3.5. Flake is good at her unflinching portrayals of pain and sadness, but I felt like this book lost its momentum in the last third and never quite recovered. "
— Katie, 6/9/2013" The book just didn't work for me. I kept forgetting that they were only 14, which was confusing. Maybe the story was supposed to be confusing because 14 year olds are confused, but I didn't like it. I did enjoyed Autumn's voice, the cadence of it. "
