"In theory, this book sounded like a great idea. You read a few pages, watch videos and interact with the killer; what could be more immersive than that? In practice, however, it was not as easy to watch the videos as you would think. First of all, I like to read books practically anywhere (waiting at the airport, during lunch at work, at the gym on the treadmill, in bed at night) and for some reason the videos used Flash, which means you can't watch them on your iPhone or your iPad. In my case, every time I read 20+ pages, I had to go get my laptop and log in to see the movies (most of which were not worth the time) and in many cases I had a list of 5 to watch at once. This book could have easily gotten 5 stars for the innovation alone if only they made the videos work on the iPhone."
— Nicole (4 out of 5 stars)
" This was my first "Digi book"....it was interesting to go from reading the story to a 2-3 minute online video about the parts you just read or will read.....the book was a great read....can't wait for more of them....Took me less than 24 hours to go cover to cover.....well worth a read. "
— Paul, 2/17/2014" I was very dissapointed in this book and expected better writing from Zuiker since he creates script for the CSI television shows. The story was mediocre at best and the whole digi-novel concept was worthless. "
— Jolie, 12/27/2013" A great thriller. Loved the pace, loved the characters, loved the interaction with the short videos online. Highly recommended. Only warning: Some scenes are very violent. "
— Chris, 12/1/2013" Great series if you like CSI. Super, fantastic character, that they even brought into the show. A must read. "
— KC, 11/26/2013" Great Book! Sqweegel is one creepy dude! Can't wait to read the next book Dark Prophecy. "
— Nelson, 11/12/2013" Interesting format with the corresponding video clips online, although most of the clips were unnecessary. Short chapters made for a quick read, but by the end of it I'd had my fill of reading about a sadistic serial killer. "
— Mo, 11/11/2013" this book was amazing...interactive ... and your seeing from the killers side.... just awesome "
— Amber, 10/20/2013" Don't waste time going to watch those little videos, they suck and the author describes them in the book afterward anyway... No need for those. "
— Caroline, 8/10/2013" I am currently re-reading this book in anticipation of the new Level 26 novel Dark Prophecy that is now available. If you saw the CSI episode with Sqweegel on 10/14/10 then this book is your 1st glimpse into Level 26 & the mind of a killer. "
— Marilyn, 8/4/2013" THIS BOOK WAS FANTASIC! It will have you on the edge of your seat the whole time. Not for the squimish. Also take time to use the codes at the end of the chapters. "
— Beth, 8/3/2013" loved it but thought the film portion was kinda boring. I wanted to see more details "
— Janina, 6/24/2013" This was incredible - only my second audio book, and it had me freaked out!! I kept a light on at all times in my house!!!! LOVED it! "
— Annie, 5/21/2013" Good concept, its worth the read/watching clips on the internet. Mixes things up a bit but a little rough around the edges. I'm assuming the next one will be improved. "
— Chris, 1/8/2013" Totally f*ed story. Really interesting if you like psychological thrillers. Gave me the chills the entire read. Definitely recomment it! "
— Amy, 12/21/2012" I gave this book 4 stars because of the uniqueness of it. I couldn't wait to get to the URL addresses to see the next video. I wished the video's were a little longer because the serial killer was freaky to watch. I recommend it to anyone who want's a different way to read a book. "
— Dina, 10/25/2012" Creepy and nasty. Kept me up at night not only to finish the book, but also because it freaked me out. Scary the mind that thinks this stuff up!! "
— Melissa, 6/11/2012" You know - for a cheap thrill this was a good one. "
— Roxanne, 1/7/2012" Gruesome, dopey, fun crime read. If you're fine with having a latex covered penis as a main character, give it a look. "
— Dante, 8/3/2011" I love Anthony E. Zuikers books. For me it is a can't wait to get back to it book. Gives me the shivers to think someone like this is probably out there. "
— Karen, 6/27/2011" Another Level 26 interactive novel. This time, the video bridges are a short film. The story unfolds as Steve Dark is having a tarot reading. Each video section is a new card, and sets you up for the next chapter of the book. Spot the actors - Justine Bateman and Michael Ironside appear. "
— Jennifer, 6/25/2011" Not as good as the outstanding Dark Origins but still creepy and scary enough to warrant 4 out of 5 stars. Not sure that the killer qualifies as Level 26, though. "
— Marti, 6/10/2011" Well this was the second in the series of books and I have to say I was a bit disappointed. I was on edge with the first book Level 26 but I found myself just sitting through Dark Prophecy and I expected so much more. I don't want to give any spoilers so this is all I am going to say for now. "
— Jordan, 3/24/2011" Author created television series CSI - dark and scary. "
— Karla, 1/21/2011" Didn't enjoy it as much as the first book, but kudos for casting Justine Bateman in the video portions. "
— Alexsis, 12/15/2010" Waited over a year for this book. Not nearly as good as the first one. Took me longer to get through, good, but expected much better. "
— Michelle, 11/16/2010" Not as good as the first book, and the ending was predictable, but still managed to keep my interest. "
— Rebecca, 11/14/2010" Finished in 1 day, excellent book, not as 'nail biting' than the first. "
— Marc, 11/8/2010" Not as good as the first one. :( "
