Publisher Description

Jesus for President is a radical manifesto to awaken the Christian political imagination, reminding us that our ultimate hope lies not in partisan political options but in Jesus and the incarnation of the peculiar politic of the church as a people “set apart” from this world. In what can be termed lyrical theology, Jesus for President poetically weaves together words and images to sing (rather than dictate) its message. It is a collaboration of Shane Claiborne’s writing and stories, Chris Haw’s reflections and research, and Chico Fajardo-Heflin’s art and design. Drawing upon the work of biblical theologians, the lessons of church history, and the examples of modern-day saints and ordinary radicals, Jesus for President stirs the imagination of what the Church could look like if it placed its faith in Jesus instead of Caesar. A fresh look at Christianity and empire, Jesus for President transcends questions of “Should I vote or not?” and “Which candidate?” by thinking creatively about the fundamental issues of faith and allegiance. It’s written for those who seek to follow Jesus, rediscover the spirit of the early church, and incarnate the kingdom of God.

"I found the first three-fourths of this book to be an interesting dive into the political ramifications of the Old and New Testament at the time of its writing. The insights into the culture of the times was quite fascinating and intriguing. The last fourth of the book however, seemed to be more grounded in opinion. As a whole, the artistic layout of the book drew out the content like no other book I've read. Great Presentation!!"

" An amazing account of the daily life regulations and strife a man of God must face in his day to day duties and beliefs. A true inspiration for any political figure and let's the world catch a glimpse of a Jesus that was human and dealing with the likes of this world while maintaining a constant focus on the next. "

" Shane Claiborne is a thinker and this is a thought provoking book. He has some really great observations and ideas on the ideas of being a follower of Christ. I appreciate his thoughtfulness to the topics but not so much his writing style. If you are looking for a deep theological masterpiece this is not the book for you. It is very easy to read and I encourage everyone to read it if only to hear his ideas. "

" First of all, this book was so beautifully laid out and illustrated. It was a work of art. Some very relevant and provocative thoughts. I didn't totally agree with everything (I think the book was slightly in reaction to current political realities, which is fine, but made it feel a bit too radical in the other direction), but it had some really important thoughts to bring to the table. Great practicals as well. "

" This is one of the most spectacular Christian books I have ever read. Want to read it? Then prepare to be stretched and pushed in every direction until you can't help but feel that everything needs to be changed. The average Christian life needs to look different and many of us Christians know that. But this book will bring the conviction of the Holy Spirit that we all need to take a good look at every last aspect of our lives. "
