The classic full-length novel set in the Halo universe and based on the New York Times bestselling video game series!
The twenty-sixth century. Once considered clandestine, the Spartan-II program has now gone public. Tales of armored super-soldiers fending off thousands of Covenant attacks have become the stuff of legend. While the Master Chief defends a besieged Earth, and the myriad factions of the Covenant continue their crusade to eliminate humanity, an ultra-secret cell of the Office of Naval Intelligence known as “Section Three” devises a plan to buy the UNSC vital time. It will need hundreds of willing soldiers, though—and one more Spartan—to get the job done.
The planet Onyx is virtually abandoned and the perfect place to set this new plan in motion. But when the Master Chief destroys Halo, something is triggered deep within Onyx: Ancient Forerunner technology stirs, and fleets of UNSC and Covenant vessels race to claim it and change the course of the Human-Covenant War. But this reawakened and ancient force may have plans of its own….

"Didn't read the last two books before this so I was kinda confused. But, I really enjoyed it. the ending was very wondeful and awesome! I listened to the audio book of it and the guy reading it was kinda of boring and it bugged me but I enjoyed this."
— Coushatta (4 out of 5 stars)
“Mind-bogglingly inventive, with astounding special effects and a headlong, pulse-pounding, do-or-die narrative.”
— Kirkus Reviews on A Signal Shattered" another great read in a series of great books "
— Sean, 1/13/2014" Fun read if you like the Halo universe "
— Vamshidhar, 12/31/2013" After his first two Halo novels, both being superb, I had high hopes for Nylund's third, but I was disappointed. The story didn't really seem all that interesting to me and the (SPOILERS!) Spartan IIIs seemed wimpy and boring. Not as bad as The Flood but definitely the second worst out of the series. "
— Matt, 12/25/2013" Man, I love Eric Nylund, I really think he does the Halo world justice. He brings the characters to life and immerses you in their world. Spartans never die! "
— Gregory, 12/9/2013" Another fun read, good story, good characters, an action and adventure sci-fi romp "
— David, 11/10/2013" Eric Nylund has got to be one of the best writers ever. I mean, you have to be an amazing writer to get me to tear up reading a book about a video game. Wish he'd written all of them, & hope any more that come out are written by him. Awesome book! "
— Chantel, 11/8/2013" A very predictable book with sadly little interesting content. Deaths are all predictable and it feels like a poor man's Enders Game, without any of the mystery or empathy. "
— Astray, 10/24/2013" Got a little lost at some parts. "
— Spitfire, 10/19/2013" Brilliant as usual, neverending story, but still there is something to look for. "
— Lenka, 3/9/2013" althought this book talks about what happens to MIA spartan kurt it does also talk a little bit about love(its not easy to notice that unless u read the book a few times, say 3-4?its about ash and holly)any other deep issue i cant think of right now. "
— Joshua, 12/27/2012" Very well done, Nylund did a great job on this one. I enjoyed it quite a bit, perhaps even more so than the official halo story itself. "
— Nick, 12/10/2012" I couldn't really get into this one but Eric Nylund definitely sets up a good plot for Halo 4 in this book. "
— Will, 12/9/2012" Eric Nylund is an amazing writer. I am captured from the start and then the end arrives from no where. I hope this story continues. This book is great and is a must for any Spartan fan. "
— Joey, 8/29/2011" Bizarrely good for a book based off a video game. "
— nooker, 4/17/2011" I enjoyed this book the most out of the Halo novelizations so far. The characters and moral dilemmas seem real and important, and Nylund's style fits the pacing and tone of the Halo universe. "
— Will, 3/20/2011" It had a good story line needs another book. "
— James, 3/19/2011" Just some more Halo fun. Keepin' it easy on my weary mind. "

— David, 1/11/2011" Very well done, Nylund did a great job on this one. I enjoyed it quite a bit, perhaps even more so than the official halo story itself. "
— Nick, 11/15/2010" Didn't think I was into this type of 'based on a game' type of book. But, Eric is a great writer, able to create amazing stories with any bases. "
— Kelly, 10/5/2010" Pretty good book gives you a bit of hope for the Poor Spartan III's "
— Daniel, 8/18/2010" I enjoyed this book the most out of the Halo novelizations so far. The characters and moral dilemmas seem real and important, and Nylund's style fits the pacing and tone of the Halo universe. "
— Will, 8/8/2010" Not bad for a video game tie in book. I read the first three of these and found I enjoyed Eric Nylund's writing the best of the three authors. "
— Smrathburn, 8/6/2010" Just couldn't do it. Maybe I'm not being fair to the Halo book series since I read the truly atrocious Contact Harvest first but. . .I just can't do it. Gave up after 50 pages. And I HATE giving up on anything. "
