Quotes & Awards

  • The powerful story of an athlete who has inspired girls all over the world to believe in themselves.”

Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook COO and New York Times bestselling author

  • “This is the best memoir I’ve read by an athlete since Andre Agassi’s Open.”

Adam Grant, New York Times bestselling author

  • “Inspirational…harrowing.”

    Guardian (London)

  • “Lucid and wrenching…Forward puts [Wambach’s] achievement in context with painful and beautiful candor.”

    NPR

  • “Candid, thoughtful…While the sports stories are included, this is not a book celebrating on-field triumphs: it’s a book about one woman’s journey to put her remarkable talents into context and accept herself.”

    Booklist

  • “Wambach chronicles her growth as a premier player in women’s soccer. In doing so, she places herself in the context of changes that came, in part, from federal legislation that opened up opportunities for women athletes and supported the growth of women’s professional sports. Wambach’s narration sounds measured, reflecting a narrow range of emotion…Overall her presentation highlights the personal nature of her memoir and the discipline that contributed to her success as an athlete.”
