From the author of Shelter Me comes a novel about having your heart in the right place.
Newly divorced Dana Stellgarten has always been unfailingly nice—even to telemarketers—but now her patience is wearing thin. Money is tight, her kids are reeling from their dad’s departure, and her goth teenage niece has just landed on her doorstep. As she enters the slipstream of postdivorce romance and is befriended by the town queen bee, Dana finds that the tension between being true to yourself and being liked doesn’t end in middle school—and that sometimes it takes a real friend to help you embrace adulthood in all its flawed complexity.
This is a tender, often humorous, story of rising above the unexpected, sometimes disappointing circumstances of life. Dana is the quintessential everywoman, finding her own voice and inner strength just when she needs it most. Fay has a knack for creating authentic characters whom readers will come to love. With savvy dialogue and compelling emotional insight, Deep Down True is a novel with intelligence and soul.

"This book was so real I almost felt like I was a shadow in the life of the main character and was following her around for months. I have found that I love the books that simply tell a story about people, who they are now and who they were then. How they handle all the crap life throws at them and how they change because of it. This book had it all. The writing was very good and even though there were times I wanted to take the main character and shake her for being so pliable...that was who she was and I had to accept that...until she wasn't anymore."

“Engrossing, touching, and immensely satisfying. The truth shines on every page. I’d almost be willing to go back to junior high if I could sit at Juliette Fay’s lunch table!”
— Beth Harbison, New York Times bestselling author“Sincere, powerful, and heartfelt, Deep Down True will resonate with women everywhere…I loved Fay’s true-to-life characters and her ability to portray the intricate dynamics of friendship and family in such an immediately recognizable way. There is a ‘me too’ moment on every page, right down to the satisfying finish.”
— Emily Giffin, New York Times bestselling author of Something Borrowed and Something Blue“Enormously readable and hugely relatable!”
— Kelly Corrigan, New York Times bestselling author of The Middle Place“When I wasn’t inside the world of this book—because this is a book that you enter instead of merely read—I longed to be. I love it for its intensely human characters and for the way the author grants them their flaws as generously as she celebrates their daily decencies, their persistent hopefulness, their moments of personal grace.”
— Marisa de los Santos, New York Times bestselling author of Love Walked In“Deep Down True is ultimately a heartwarming and refreshing novel and a choice pick for public library audiobook collections.”
— Midwest Book Review“Familiar material—a newly divorced woman navigating the choppy waters of single parenthood—gets sensitive treatment in this subtle novel by the author of Shelter Me… Expertly walks a heavily trodden path.”
— Publishers Weekly“Fay imbues Dana with the smarts and insecurities that war within most of us. With her comfort zone obliterated, Dana draws on her inner strengths to reconstruct a new foundation for her children in a world where she gets to be the alpha wolf. Highly recommended for fans of women’s fiction featuring resilient heroines.”
— Library Journal“Heartwarming, funny, well-penned, unexpectedly suspenseful, this is a solid page-turner, right through to the touching end.”
— Booklist" Definitely didn't enjoy it as much as her other two. The story felt more forced, but she does write relatable characters. "
— Jessica, 2/19/2014" I's not a classic or anything but I did really enjoy reading it. Its the story of a just divorced Mom with two young kids and how she goes on. She finds a job, she deals with real life problems and faces adulthood. "

— Carol, 1/10/2014" While not my usual fare, I have to admit that this book grew on me through the course of my time with it. I took about a week to slowly make my way through the first half, but finished the second half in a single day (and a work day, at that). While the characters on the periphery fail to grow beyond stereotypes, the central figures read as true and interesting. I was surprised by how much their story came to mean to me. "
— Paul, 12/26/2013" I like this local author. She was kind enough to speak to my book club over the phone about the writing process and her first book. This is a cute story with romance but also covers serious issues of divorce, terminal illness, teenage angst and eating disorders. I quick read with likable characters. "

— Brenda, 11/5/2013" Juliette Fay is one of the best authors when it comes to creating characters that feel real. They are not perfect but that is what makes them likeable and relateable. "
— Rochelle, 9/26/2013" Overall the book was good. Slow in some parts but still an easy read. It has some good messages and takes some twists. "
— Tula, 7/12/2013" Jonas Clarke Middle/Junior High seems to have a lot to answer for! "

— Saraweaver81, 5/19/2011" This book was enjoyable but not great. I found it entertaining but not a fast page-turner. The development of characters is very good and you do connect with them and the story. Overall, an average book in my opinion. "
— Daniella, 4/20/2011" This was a good read. It seemed a little choppy in parts, but I liked the story and the subject matter. "
— Traci, 4/14/2011" Between 3.5 and 4 stars. The book was good, if a little predictable. "
— Sherrie, 4/8/2011" At the beginning, it was almost too painful to read because the character was so much like me, but I kept on reading because I knew things would get better for her. Very good read. Would like to read her other book. "
— Jeannette, 3/29/2011" The characters are very real and raw, similar to the characters in her first book Shelter Me. "
— Kathleen, 3/16/2011" I just loved this book. I found myself saying, "I can relate to that!" all the way through. Also reminded me a bit of my mom and her struggles after an unexpected divorce. It's very quick to read. "
— Patricia, 3/13/2011" I chose the book for the cover. It's very attractive. Motherhood is time-consuming, but our heroine takes it to the nth degree. She does always have good advice for her children, and that's to be admired. The story kept me interested, but I was happy to get to the last page. "
— Barbara, 3/11/2011" Loved this book! About a recent divorcee and her problems with her two children, her ex and his new girlfried, etc. Fay really developed the characters. I'd like to read her other book. "
— Toby, 2/27/2011" NIce characters even if the plot is a little predictable. I liked a book with a similar topic better - Breakdown Lane. "
