Trouble is, it’s much more complicated—and deadly—than it initially appears. While forces within her own office plot against her, an outside threat takes things to another level: Win the case or her attorney husband, Jared, will die. But Jared has received threats, too. Forced to defend the opposition, he learns that, if loses the case, Sara will be killed. With everything on the line for both of them, husband and wife battle it out—at court and at home—while maintaining the terrible secret behind their motives. Caught in a struggle of rollercoaster emotions and shocking betrayals, Jared and Sara must face the unthinkable: No matter who wins, one of them may die.

" Fantastic book....it is a long book, but it is a page turner! :) Great! Very well written! "
— Andrea, 2/15/2014" Could not put it down.. "
— Beve, 2/11/2014" It was my favorite of Brad Meltzer's so far. I liked the idea of the husband wife attorneys against each other in trial. I Highly recommend it. "
— Cynthia, 2/11/2014" I listened to the audiobook. The story itself is below average, uninteresting and on top of that Scott Brick's reading style is sloow and overly dramatic in almost every sentence. So imagine listening to it for over 11 hours. He killed my future interest to read other books by Brad Melzer. Or audiobooks read by him. "
— Craig, 2/8/2014" Picked this book up at the library and it did not disappoint. I wanted a quick read with a good story. This legal thriller led you on a ride that had you guessing until the end. "
— Yvonne, 2/7/2014" I really enjoyed this book. It may have been a little longer than necessary but an easy read. "
— Dennis, 1/29/2014" Fast paced, easy to read, with great plot as expected from Brad Meltzer's judicial novels. "
— Diane, 1/15/2014" Completely implausible and too long, but the writing was pretty good. Some really good descriptions of New York and interesting details about the workings of the district attorney's office. "
— LikeTheDog, 1/15/2014" Pretty good! I don't know about the ending though... "
— Jaymie-Rose, 1/7/2014" Another great thriller by Brad Meltzer. Maybe other people have more luck in trying to guess who is good and who is bad, but every time I think I have the bad guys figured out, I've been wrong. "
— Bill, 12/10/2013" Absolutely horrible book. The rules of law and ethics were ignored. Blind hunches solved the crime. Hated it. I was glad I got it from the library rather than buying it. "
— Bev, 12/1/2013" Not my favorite of his, but a good thriller. "
— Kelly, 11/18/2013" I enjoy reading Brad Meltzer's books. The story line in this book really drew me right in. It was hard for me to put the book down. "
— Janet, 11/15/2013" Bad title, good vacation read. "
— John, 11/6/2013" A quick read. My first exposure to Meltzer. Decent plot twists, although he lost me in a couple of places, including when he kills off a central character; interesting characters, scary villains. It's all there. "
— Peter, 8/26/2013" Another excellent legal thriller from Brad Meltzer! Please Brad go back to writing these!! "
— Drew, 6/5/2013" I have read this novel years back..i'm trying to remember the story line just started few chapters yet... "
— Khyma, 4/23/2013" Loved this book. The twists and turns keep you guessing on what is going to happen next "
— Jill, 12/2/2012" an interesting mystery "
— Robin, 11/20/2012" Action legal thriller. Husband vs wife. Would make a good movie. As good as any Grisham novel I have read. "
— Debbie, 8/7/2012" Didn't like it at all. "
— Janet, 7/19/2012" Entertaining. A lot of silly banter. Overall, a decent court thriller. "
— Ryan, 7/11/2012" Classic Brad Meltzer. Hard to put down, fast paced and surprises all along the way. "
— Charlie, 7/9/2012" Another great Brad Meltzer mystery. The husband-wife story line is amazing. You can't help picking sides but still rooting for them to be together. "
— Jessica, 3/12/2012" this was the second meltzer book that i read...it might be my last. a very lame and predictable ending. "
— David, 11/15/2011" Another good read from Meltzer. In a similar style to his Tenth Justice, it is a book of conflicts among his friends and associates. "
— Jkrenik, 7/26/2011" This was a great idea, but poorly executed... I found that I was horribly frustrated with both protagonists- At one point I even said "enough already" out loud... "
— Mary, 6/20/2011" Horrible. I listened to this book. The narrator was terrible. The prose was elementary at best and just soooooo.... fake. The plot was predictable. I kept waiting for the suspense, but it never happened. I was very disappointed. "
— Anna, 6/16/2011" i think that was a good story. but it bores me at the end...i don't know why.. (laughs)<br/>trust plays a big role. "
— Cmm08, 5/21/2011" Novel plot but the writing quality was quite poor. Also, the predictable end did not make this any better. The mystery elements in between make this quite readable, but not up there with the other top legal fiction books. "
— Anandh, 5/17/2011" I've been really disappointed in his last two books. This was better than the last, but still not great. "
— Christy, 4/19/2011" I enjoy reading Brad Meltzer's books. The story line in this book really drew me right in. It was hard for me to put the book down. "
— Janet, 3/29/2011" The wife's a new assistant DA, the husband's a defense lawyer, and she ends up prosecuting one of his clients. Some really despicable characters in this one, along with plenty of action. I'd give it 5 stars but the dialogue gets a bit hokey at times. "
— Dan, 3/6/2011" It was my favorite of Brad Meltzer's so far. I liked the idea of the husband wife attorneys against each other in trial. I Highly recommend it. "
— Cynthia, 1/18/2011" Not my favorite of his, but a good thriller. "
— Kelly, 12/2/2010" Great read!! Well done, Mr. Meltzer. "
— Jen, 12/1/2010" Another great thriller by Brad Meltzer. Maybe other people have more luck in trying to guess who is good and who is bad, but every time I think I have the bad guys figured out, I've been wrong. "
