Publisher Description

Since its founding in 1865, The Salvation Army has grown from a small London movement, to an internationally renowned organization, virtually synonymous with "charity." In this volume, General Henry Gariepy documents that growth, exploring the thrilling history of the worldwide movement, and the incredible things God has accomplished through it. Gariepy's work serves as a reminder of the power Scripture has, when applied, to change the world -- of Christianity, in action

About the Authors

Colonel Henry Gariepy (1930–2010) was National Literary Consultant for the Salvation Army in the United States. He retired in 1995 from his full-time officership, having served for fifteen years as national editor-in-chief and literary secretary. He held many other positions within the Army, such as corps officer and youth camp coordinating officer in various locations across America. He continued to be very active after his retirement from the Salvation Army, acting as a speaker, literary consultant, conference speaker, and college teacher at the School for Officer Training in Suffern, New York. He was promoted to Glory and received the Order of the Founder—the highest honor the Salvation Army can grant.

Raymond Todd is an actor and director in the theater as well as a poet and documentary filmmaker. He plays jazz trombone for the Leatherstocking quartet, an ensemble that gets its name from one of his favorite Blackstone narrations, The Deerslayer. Todd lives in New York.
