As an Agent of Death, Madeline Black is responsible for escorting the souls of the dearly departed to the afterlife. It's a 24/7 job with a lousy benefits package.
Maddy's position may come with magical powers and an impressive wingspan, but it doesn't pay the bills. And then there are her infuriating boss, tenant woes, and a cranky, popcorn-loving gargoyle to contend with.
Things start looking up, though, when tall, dark, and handsome Gabriel Angeloscuro agrees to rent the empty apartment in Maddy's building. It's probably just a coincidence that as soon as he moves in demons appear on the front lawn. But when an unholy monster is unleashed upon the streets of Chicago, Maddy discovers powers she never knew she possessed. Powers linked to a family legacy of tarnished halos.
Powers that place her directly between the light of Heaven and the fires of Hell...

"It's obvious this is the author's first novel - some parts don't flow as nicely as they could have but the premise is somewhat fresh and the characters have sufficient depth to hold my interest. The ending was nice and I'll definitely pick up the next in this series. "
— Clare (4 out of 5 stars)
Henry shows that she is up to the challenge of debuting in a crowded genre. The extensive background of her imaginative world is well integrated with the action-packed plot, and the satisfying conclusion leaves the reader primed for the next installment.
— Publishers Weekly" Different take on the angel/demon thing. I liked it - loved Beezle. I'd read more in the series. "
— Janna, 6/26/2011" reminds me of Merry Gentry a little - I look forward to the next one. "
— Lori, 6/18/2011" This was really cute. This starts out like "Dead Like Me" and takes it to a whole different place. I like the characters and look forward to reading the next one. "
— Gypsie, 6/3/2011" I only gave it 3.5 stars but will read the next one. I want to know more but didn't love this one. I have high hopes for the next one. GABRIEL!!! "
— whitney, 5/30/2011" Too many superpowers and too many ambitious plotlines. I like a more simplier heroine thats not superman. It looks more human that way. "
— Kristel, 5/16/2011" This book never stopped. It was non-stop perfection from start to finish. I might read it again. "
— Sarah, 5/13/2011" Feel so bad...

Found this book too boring to finish.

Life is too short right? "
— Gemma, 5/1/2011" This was actually pretty good. Gabriel was kind of a wimp, definitely not Alpha but the characters were interesting and Maddy was a good heroine. She had all this power but it freaked her out and she couldn't control it, not like your usual PNR heroine. "
— Laura, 4/27/2011" Fantastic! I'm so happy this is the start to a series, because I can't get enough of this story, the heroine, and the whole world of Black Wings. Great dialogue, inventive plot - loved it! "
— Ctbarth, 4/25/2011" Loved it. Fantastic characters and fascinating world building and a very interesting and different take on angel/demon mythology I haven't seen before. Very impressed. "
— Heather, 4/25/2011" hmmm it's okay so far a little dry but maybe it will pick up and get better? :/
"
