Far, far away, jutting out into the emptiness beyond, lies the Edge. Filled with strange peoples and terrifying creatures, this is a world unlike any other, where action–and danger–await at every turn. Abandoned at birth in the dangerous Deepwoods, young Twig has been brought up by a family of woodtrolls. He has always thought he was one of them, until, one cold night, he finds out he’s not. Soon he sets off to find out who he really is, and he does the unthinkable–he strays from the path.
So begins the heart-stopping adventure that will take Twig through a nightmarish world of goblins and trogs, bloodthirsty beasts and flesh-eating trees. Only two things keep Twig going: the hopes of discovering his true identity and finding his destiny.

" The story had interesting creatures and a long harrowing journey. My son didn't really like the main character so that limited our enjoyment of this book. We are reading the second book in the hope that our protagonist will not be such a victom. "

" a good juvenile fiction book. i enjoyed listening to the descriptions of the different creatures and the sky pirates. i wouldn't recommend letting a kid under at least 10 reading it. "

" I liked the illustrations, and I really liked the whole journey. The adventures were great and some of the characters were really cleverly constructed. But I just felt like the story was too disconnected and choppy. I needed more flow, more continuity. "

" At first this seemed a typical kid's fantasy book. Each chapter introduced you to a new and dnagerous situation and the hero's life was in peril once again. The creatures were very imaginative and Twig was quite loveable. Some of the situations were bordering on gross. A fun book. "

" It's marketed as a kids' book, but I wouldn't let my kids read it. It is too gross, illustrated by pictures that left little to the imagination icky-ness-wise. It's one thing to read it, another to see it in pictures. Won't be reading the rest of the series. "
