With 14 national bestsellers to his credit, Terry Brooks has become an icon among fantasy fiction lovers. This stunning sequel to Running with the Demon lures listeners even further into the dark place where the battle for our souls rages on.

By night, John Ross, A Knight of the Word, dreams of a nightmarish world governed by merciless demons, and by day he stalks these agents of evil in order to prevent the dreams from materializing. Having failed to prevent an unspeakable act of horror, he now suffers a crisis of faith. Vulnerable, no longer able to trust in the goodness of the Word, he has become a tempting prize for voracious demons. His only hope for survival may be a young girl who wields a powerful magic of her own.

George Wilson’s powerful narration so effectively builds tension and plants doubt that you find yourself as easily led astray as the errant Knight. You don’t know what to believe or whom to trust in this suspenseful novel, where things happen fast and appearances are deceiving.

Quotes & Awards

  • “The plot builds slowly with a greater richness of passion and fear, showing the characters' struggles over whether to save those they love or be true to a hopefully greater and more worthwhile cause. A Knight of the Word is a meditation on responsibility and consequence as well as a dark fantasy page-turner. The novel effectively captures the difficulties and frustration one must deal with when warring with evil from the Void, or from within one's own heart.”

    Tom Piccirilli, Stoker award–winning author

  • “[An] urban dark fantasy…Sharp and satisfying.”

    Publishers Weekly

  • “This fast paced, contemporary fantasy…has a lot going for it: believable characters, fallible heroes, a bittersweet feeling of lost innocence.” Seattle Times
  • “Superior to anything being written in the genre…Terry Brooks is one of a handful of fantasy writers whose work consistently meets the highest literary standards.”

    Rocky Mountain News

" Enjoyed the "not knowing" who the demon is. Was initially not happy with plot, but changed my mind as book progressed, especially during John's final conversation with the demon. Well written dialog Mr. Brooks. "
