Publisher Description

Chronicling the rise of the Keepers, this stunning prequel to the New York Times bestselling Nightshade series tells the origin story of the magical war that started a revolution.

“A richly layered, supernatural romance both appealing and unique.”—School Library Journal

Sixteen-year-old Ember Morrow is promised to a group called Conatus after one of their healers saves her mother's life. Once she arrives, Ember finds joy in wielding swords, learning magic, and fighting the encroaching darkness loose in the world. She also finds herself falling in love with her mentor, the dashing, brooding, and powerful Barrow Hess. But when the knights realize that Eira, one of their leaders, is dabbling in dark magic, Ember and Barrow must choose whether to follow her into the nether realm or to pledge their lives to destroying her and her kind.

With action, adventure, magic, and tantalizing sensuality, Rift is as fast-paced and breathtaking as the original Nightshade trilogy,

"I hadn't heard of this author until I happened across this book on a discount shelf at a local Safeway. Needless to say, I am absolutely glad that I bought it. It encompasses many mythical creatures and sticks to the lore pretty well. The story is well written, has romance and lots of action, while not over doing it on either. I read mostly Fae based novels and am glad this has broaden my horizons, cant wait to read the next one."

" Seemed to be a much slower pace than I remember Nightshade being. It was fine and fun, but not the best. And really, the 1-sentence summaries on the front of these books need to be banned: "She can battle darkness, but she can't fight love." Sigh... "
