NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The first book of a thrilling supernatural romance series about a teenage girl who defies the laws of the wolf pack in pursuit of true love.
“A glittering, dark gem.” —Cynthia Leitich Smith, New York Times bestselling author of Eternal
A wolf pack divided. A heart torn in two. How will Calla ever choose?
Calla Tor is the alpha female of a shape-shifting wolf pack. She is destined to marry Ren Laroche, the pack’s alpha male. Together, they would rule their pack, guarding sacred sites for the Keepers. But when Calla saves a beautiful human boy who captures her heart, she begins to question everything she’s ever known about her world—her fate, her existence, and the orders the Keepers have asked her to follow. With her wolf pack divided, Calla knows she will have to make a choice. But will she follow her heart if it means losing everything, including her own life?
Nightshade tells a dark and intimate tale of power, destiny, and identity that begs the question: is forbidden love worth the ultimate sacrifice?

"This was a real page turner! Mystery, suspense, really kept you on the edge of your seat and turning the page to see what was going to happen next. Just when you think you have it figured out, you find out youre wrong. And just at the end it twists again and you get another surprise before the book ends! Excellent! Loved it!"

-
Yet another young adult novel filled with supernatural beasties, but this teen wolf tale is actually good and will keep you reading intently.
— ENTERTAINMENTWEEKLY.COM -
Nightshade is historical fiction—with a modern pop culture twist . . .a book for well-read hopeless romantics who like their heroines conflicted, their love interests smoldering, and their passions triangulated and torrid, yet unfulfilled.
— LOS ANGELES TIMES -
Sexy and thrilling.
— BECCA FITZPATRICK, NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF HUSH, HUSH -
Nightshade is a glittering, dark gem.
— CYNTHIA LEITICH SMITH, NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF ETERNAL -
An imaginative . . . paranormal-suspense story. The book’s underlying themes of individualism and freedom . . . lift it to a higher level.
— KIRKUS REVIEWS -
There’s enough action to engage any reluctant reader . . .will no doubt have teens debating the relative merits of werewolves versus vampires.
— BOOKLIST -
Clever young adult saga that leaves readers on the edge of their seats.

" I've read a couple of Saul's books in the past. I really enjoyed "The Manhattan Hunt Club" and thought "The Presence" was enjoyable enuff that I'd pick up another one, but *this* ... with themes gathering around child abuse, incest, schizophrenia and Alzheimer's, this one just missed the mark this for me. Luckily it was a short read. I doubt I'll try this author again. "
— Maurean, 2/14/2014 -
" I love John Saul books! This one kept me up all night! "
— Lauren, 2/7/2014 -
" I liked this John Saul book, not real typical, but a good haunting story. "
— Darlene, 1/30/2014 -
" Decent twist near the end. "
— Ashlee, 1/28/2014 -
" I AM A FAN OF JOHN SAUL, WAY BEFORE I READ ANY STEPHEN KING AND JOHN SAULS BOOKS ARE INTRIGING AND HARD TO PUT DOWN WHEN YOU START ONE YOU NEED TO BE ABLE TO FINISH IT FOR YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO PUT HIS BOOKS DOWN...I PROMISE YOU WILL ENJOY HIS BOOKS "
— Roxie, 1/24/2014 -
" This book is good I'm finally getting a understanding of it. It is a little weird waiting on it get scarier. I would recommend it to anyone. "
— Pat, 1/20/2014 -
" Honestly not a very memorable book. "
— Dolly, 11/20/2013 -
" I really liked it and read this fast because I was engrossed in it. The thing I found wrong about it was the continuous repeats on how they felt and what they thought, which was always the same thing/way. "
— Donna, 10/23/2013 -
" a good thriller that is gripping and haunting "
— Kelly, 9/20/2013 -
" Creepy to the extreme. I listened to this one as an book on tape and Lee Merryweather really adds to the story as the narrator. "
— Jezebel, 8/7/2013 -
" This is a pretty creepy, incestuous and evil story. It wasn't that it was scary, but it was just very twisted. "
— Liana, 7/13/2013 -
" Not sure if I can even say I read it since I only made it half way through. It was tough making it half way. It was very slow and the author must think readers are stupid. I do not like it when a writer repeats things over and over. As readers we do remember what we read as we read it. "
— Penny, 1/19/2013 -
" Not as predictable as past books I have read from John Saul. It was an interesting read. "
— Tom, 1/3/2013 -
" This book was very mysterious and suspenseful and I loved that part! It was also a little confusing, but for the most part it was definitely a page Turner! "
— Gina, 10/31/2012 -
" Just ok. I guess I was expecting more of a twist. "
— Michele, 7/21/2012 -
" There are not too many books I choose to read whereby I will read it to the very end even if I do not enjoy it. Call me weird. I finished this novel but not only was severely boring it was borderline stupid. John Saul must've been having a bad year. "
— Lori, 7/6/2012 -
" Brain bleach...I need brain bleach. "
— Felicia, 2/27/2012 -
" Enjoyed book had some scary moments. Ending was unexpected. "
— Liz, 2/21/2012 -
" I found this book very boring and repetitive. The novel was just the same thing over and over and I found it predictable and anticlimactic. Having read John Saul's Perfect Nightmare right before reading this, I expected more out of him as an author. "
— Tomm, 12/17/2011 -
" I have to be honest I really couldn't get into this book. I had to force myself to keep reading all the way through. "
— Crystal, 11/21/2011 -
" This is an awsome book , i love it so far , i will keep reading it until the end :) "
— Arua, 6/30/2011 -
" absolutely loved It! full of action, romance, mystery and forbidden love. it's absolutely perfect. I'M SO PUMPED FOR THE SECOND ONE; Wolfsbane :) "
— Kenzie, 6/29/2011 -
" I liked this book, but I think that it was too similar to Twilight with the whole Calla and Shay thing, except for the fact the she was destined to be with Ren. Otherwise it was a good enough book and I want to read the second just not too thrilled on the similar plotline. "
— Alexa, 6/26/2011 -
" Alas something fun to read with lots of action and mystery instead of just a sloppy love story "
— Copper, 6/26/2011 -
" The only reason that keeps me reading this book through the end is it's a fast paced book. Almost the entire dialogued were unrealistic. One character "Cosette" didn't even have a line. "
— Primero, 6/25/2011 -
" Loved it, she's a pretty good writer, worth the read! "
— Arwyn, 6/23/2011 -
" Tryin hard not to just abandon the book right now... Overall it's a good read, interesting plot and story, its just the characters that are putting me off..... Strongly dislike Shay, and the way calla treats ren..... "
— Alice, 6/21/2011 -
" can't wait for the second one to come out!!! Loved this book. Why do I have to wait until July for the other one to come out? "
