Publisher Description
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series
A triple-crown winner of mystery’s most coveted awards, Rick Riordan brings his Texas-style take on the crime thriller to an island paradise where ex-PI Tres Navarre finds himself stranded with a killer as unstoppable as a force of nature.
Tres Navarre and his new wife Maia came to celebrate their honeymoon. But no sooner had they arrived on Rebel Island than a reminder of Navarre’s past showed up dead in room 12. Suddenly Tres finds himself flashing back to the grim childhood summer that changed his life. When a second corpse turns up, it’s clear that the past isn’t dead and buried—yet. What dark secrets were kept that long-ago summer and who is back to avenge them? These are questions Tres must answer as a monster hurricane hits, trapping them on a flooding island, and as the hotel’s remaining guests are being brutally murdered. Tres knows better than anyone the dangerous line between vengeance and justice—and this time he may have to cross it.

"Tres attracts trouble no matter what he does. This book is a good example...though admittedly Garrett isn't helping much. A classic closed-door murder mystery. Someone is murdered, and there is no way for anyone to leave the island; the killer is among us; etc. Despite the it's-been-done factor, I really enjoyed it. This is one of the few Riordan mysteries I've solved before the end, but even so he managed to trip me up. The truth is always more complicated."

Rebel Island Listener Reviews

" Don't know what made me try again, but I'm glad I did. This one was sooo much better than the first one. Minimal cussing and no sex - great book! "
— Lena, 2/19/2014 -
" So different from his other books. I wasn't impressed. "
— Mindy, 2/16/2014 -
" The Tres Navarre series has one of the most disappointing drop-offs in quality over the past few entries, and this one continues the trend. It's like Riordan's heart isn't in it anymore. "
— Craig, 1/31/2014 -
" Probably shouldn't have jumped into a series at book 7. I was hoping for a little more from Riordan, but got typical beach read fare. "
— Chrissie, 1/10/2014 -
" i can't believe i read the whole thing!! a hurricane, old hotel, isolated island, no way off and guess what? murder!!! awful story, can't think of one redeeming thing. "
— Cathy, 1/7/2014 -
" I picked this up because I enjoyed the Percy Jackson series by the same author. This book was written as general fiction and it was okay but not great. As often happened in the Percy Jackson books, the characters would be about to discover the answer to the burning questions and then would get distracted and forget to keep searching. Not incredibly engaging and a bit disappointing. "
— Katie, 1/6/2014 -
" I like mysteries, and this one had me second guessing myself, which I like. It had too much language in it though for me to give it a higher rating. "
— Niki, 1/5/2014 -
" Okay so I read this book first (I missed the first 6), it was good enough to read as a self-standing book. I was not confused by it-there was no need to know what happened before. The pacing is good and the plot moved along well. He keeps you guessing. It's a fun one to read. "
— Liza, 1/1/2014 -
" Pretty good mystery. Kind of far fetched at times. But enjoyed the Sherlock Holmes style of Tres Navarre. "
— Kim, 12/31/2013 -
" Currently listening to while driving around town! Not bad. "
— Jamilah, 12/18/2013 -
" Pedestrian entry in the Tres Navarre series with the detective/english professor, the suspects and victims all trapped on an island in the midst of a hurricane. Seemed like the author couldn't wait to get back to Percy Jackson. "
— Mike, 11/12/2013 -
" I picked this book because I have read Rick Riordan in the Percy Jackson series and I enjoy mysteries. It was okay with some action and twists in the plot. I will probably try another of his books in the future. "
— Rita, 11/11/2013 -
" This is an easy to read mystery on the adult level. "
— Maggie, 11/10/2013 -
" Read this because my 11 year old son enjoys the author's juveniles. The structure is very loose. A little too heavy on the surprise from nowhere. Part of a series. I wouldn't bother picking up others but it wasn't terrible. "
— Alan, 7/25/2013 -
" quick thriller read "
— Renee, 6/18/2013 -
" Fairly compelling mystery. He is a good author, though not as good as Preston & Child or some others... still... worth a read if you need a paperback. A few cuss words, but otherwise clean. "
— Steph, 4/1/2013 -
" Read this while in Port Aransas and kept wondering where this mythical island is? "
— Elisa, 12/25/2012 -
" Rick Riordan does not disappoint. He is a true talent. I enjoy his Tres Navarre mysteries and have developed a ttaste for his Percy Jackson thanks to my daughter. "
— Michael, 11/11/2012 -
" Meh. The other Tres Navarre books are better. "
— Melissa, 8/7/2012 -
" Enjoyed it and very sad that there is not more. "
— Barbi, 4/30/2012 -
" If this is really Riordan's last Tres Navarre book, it was a little disappointing. "
— A., 4/9/2012 -
" Perhaps not as well constructed as the Last King of Texas, but it was a nice read. It appears that I have jumped ahead with this one as several events have happened since the Last King, but it was enjoyable. "
— Richard, 3/4/2012 -
" I hope Rick Riordan is not planning to make this the last of the Tres Navarre series. I am sure he can spin a few more good old Texas stories. "
— Terry, 2/4/2012 -
" I didn't know Rick Riordan ventured away from half-bloods and olympians but this is his foray into the detective genre. It's a quick read and entertaining. "
— Kevin, 2/23/2011 -

" Tres Navarre but not at his best... "
— Connie, 8/18/2009 -
" If you haven't read any Tres Navarre novels, start at the beginning (Big Red Tequilla). This one is decent, but would have been better if it focused more on the characters and less on the plot twists. "
