Publisher Description
Having scored the big three of mystery's most-soughtafter awards-the Edgar, Anthony and Shamus-Rick Riordan writes with a blazing talent that matches the heat of his novels' Texas settings. Wisecracking PI Tres Navarre receives an unexpected visit from old friend Ralph Arguello. But Ralph, a seemingly reformed criminal, isn't there to shoot the breeze. His wife, Ana, a San Antonio police detective, has been gunned down-casting suspicion on Ralph because Ana had been looking into Ralph's involvement in a Mafia-related murder.

"of the 4 big reveals in this book, I saw 3 of them miles away (and should've seen the other). Still, well-plotted, well-told, gripping read. Have read a lot of Riordan this year, and am so glad I have. "

" This book was a great read and had a great ending. It's like your riding along with the characters. "
— Richard, 7/23/2010 -
" IT was a good mystery. Tres goes on the run with Ralph, so there's no Tai Chi or drinking, but there's a lot of San Antonio and Sam has grown on me. My dad has often told us that if his mind goes, we should do what Tres does about Sam's handgun. "
— Katy-Del, 4/27/2010 -
" Great suspense novel. Rick Riorden paints some interesting locations and characters. I love that there is always some surprise at the end. It's hard to figure out who done it. "
— Tina, 2/23/2010 -
" Good adventure/mystery. I had a hard time putting it down. "
— Andrea, 12/26/2008 -
" Riordan's heart just isn't in it anymore; the last good Tres Navarre was The Devil Went Down to Austin. "
— Craig, 11/30/2007
