Synopsis
Having been murdered by a mysterious assassin, Harry navigates the passages between the living and the dead; yet, once he returns to the world of the mortals, he suspects that being dead may have been a better situation. For now, he is no longer Harry Dresden, the renowned wizard of Chicago. No, he has become Winter Knight to Mab, Queen of Air and Darkness.
He has sworn his fidelity to Mab, who has fought for him for so long. Now that her word guides his actions, no matter the consequence of where to go or whom to kill, Harry is in dire straits, indeed.
Mab desires the impossible of this new Winter Knight: to murder an immortal. Trouble bubbles over when the growing threat of an unknown source of wizardry may again make the land of the dead look like a vacation paradise. What does this mean for Harry?
Surrounded by foes, Harry must unite his friends and circumvent the needless destruction of innocent souls. And he must discover how to break his fealty to Mab, so that she doesn't claim his very soul.
Jim Butcher was born in 1971 in Missouri. He is known for his fantasy series the Dresden Files. Introduced to the fantasy genre through his sisters when he was sick as a child, Butcher became entranced with the stories of Tolkien, Lloyd Alexander, and C.S. Lewis. He has a wife, a son, and a guard dog named Frostbite.
"When I open the CD box for the audio version, there were 15 discs. That tells me it's a long book. The story flew by. I try to limit my book listening to on the way to and fro' work otherwise I don't get much done. I couldn't do it. I went to bed each night listening to Harry and discovering new things about him and his friends. I get a little frustrated during a goo fight scene when new monsters are introduced or personal histories revealed. I often yell - get on with the battle! That's the joy however of the series. Yeah, Jim Butcher, get your pencils sharp and get the next book out! What is Molly going do? Her mother is going to kill Harry. So much to look forward to!"

" Read it in two days, it was completely addictive. I loved the moral judgements he was faced with and how it all fell out. I loved that while many things are explained, many more are brought up and now I am wondering if I missed something. Starborn? Anyone else catch that? I'm waiting on the audio book to come out at the library because now even when I read Harry, it's Marsders voice in my head. I need to reread because I plowed through it so fast I know I missed a lot of nuances. Bring on the audio, and long live Harry Dresden, my fiction wizard boyfriend. :) "
