James Bond as you've never sen him before...in the smashing new thriller and #1 international bestseller from Jeffrey Deaver.
A Night Action alert calls James Bond away from dinner with a beautiful woman. Headquarters has decrypted an electronic whisper—plans for a devastating attack:
Casualties estimated in the thousands, British interests adversely affected.
James Bond, in his early thirties and already a veteran of the Afghan War, has been recruited to a new organization. Conceived in the post-9/11 world, it operates independent of MI5, MI6, and the Ministry of Defense, its very existence deniable. Its aim: to protect the Realm, by any means necessary.
And Agent 007 has been given carte blanche to do whatever it takes to fulfill his mission...

"Enjoyed this one. A bit strange to read about a James Bond character set in current times but I guess the movies have been doing this all the time. Bond is also a bit less sexist and his character a bit more human. Will probably be looking at more Deaver books in the future."

Quotes
-
“A magnificently manic, impeccably researched and at times gory plot, with Deaver’s trademark misdirection and twists flying.”
— Washington Post -
“His creator may be long gone, but James Bond (with his gadgets, women, and suave lines) lives on in the skillful hands of a suspense superstar.”
— Newsweek -
“Ian Fleming’s estate tapped American novelist Deaver to pen a new James Bond thriller, and the pairing is as smooth as vodka and vermouth. Yes, the villains are creepy and the women brainy and beautiful, but in a clever reboot, this 007 (who served in Afghanistan) comes armed with a tricked-out cell phone and an appealing sense of empathy.”
— Parade -
“The James Bond franchise is thriving, and this terrific new pastiche will amply reward Bond fans and possibly bring new readers into the fold…Intricate and inventive, surprising and satisfying—a testament to Deaver’s skill as a storyteller.”

" A great combination--Jeffrey Deaver and James Bond. "
— Darlene, 2/1/2014 -
" Didn't think it was possible to make "Bond" boring - but Deaver has done it. Kind of a slog so far ... "
— Tracy, 1/28/2014 -
" Bond is back, and modernized again, as the fifth author takes up the mantle of penning 007 novels. This is an author who I gather was established in his own right before taking up this task. I read this book sometime ago and I've dawdled at writing this blurb, had I been really excited by it, I would have gotten to it sooner. I expect that might say something about the book. There was some technology described in here that made me think. If you give your documents to a company to shred, how do you know they're not scanning them first before shredding? Not Fleming's Bond by any means, that "sexist, misogynist dinosaur" would never really play in this millennium, but it is more on par with the recent films featuring Daniel Craig. "
— Dennis, 1/13/2014 -
" A very fun reboot of the James Bond novels. "
— T, 1/10/2014 -
" Always nice to read Bond--great reboot! "
— Ellen, 1/7/2014 -
" I really liked this re-imangination of James Bond. He's not the emotionally wounded warrior of recent movies but a really smart, one-step-ahead of the bad guys super hero. This book is a lot of fun and rings true as another great story in the life of Bond...James Bond. "
— Beth, 12/26/2013 -
" Decent but forgettable. "
— Lincoln, 12/14/2013 -
" I love Bond and I love Deaver. Not much more I can say. :) "
— Jennifer, 12/5/2013 -
" I'm a huge James Bond fan, which leaves me being pretty picky about the Bond novels. This one ROCKS. Great, modern adaptation of Bond. "
— Doug, 6/25/2013 -
" Bond is back -- a worthy adaptation, and comtemporization, of the Ian Flemming classics. "
— Drewkosztyo, 6/10/2013 -
" This book was lacking...a more detailed review to come... "
— Bluesman, 6/2/2013 -
" Reading this was just as much fun as watching a Bond movie! "
— Kim, 5/28/2013 -
" Brings the Bond books into the new age of warfare!!!!!! Such a good book I read it in a few days. "
— Khristian, 11/25/2012 -
" Yes, this is not your typical Ian Fleming job. It is definitely more Lincoln Rhymes than James Bond. However, the story is good, the plot is taut and the characters are believable (in the context). Loved the way Deaver weaves a tale. "
— Sanjeev, 3/10/2012 -
" Really had a hard time getting into James Bond again. Guess I just prefer Ian Flemming. "
— Richard, 1/16/2012 -
" Not one of Deaver's best... but then again, this isn't Deaver's character. I congratulate him on writing a great Bond book... but I want Lincoln, Amelia, and Kathryn back! "
— Justin, 12/15/2011 -
" This was a pretty good book.. It was a very quick read.. I remember when I heard that Deaver took over the writting; he did not disappoint.. It was the first Bond book I have enjoyed in a while.. "
— Steve, 6/15/2011 -
" A good story, but it sometimes didn't gel with the Bond stories I have read, watched and enjoyed for years. "
— Iain, 6/9/2011
