" The story had interesting creatures and a long harrowing journey. My son didn't really like the main character so that limited our enjoyment of this book. We are reading the second book in the hope that our protagonist will not be such a victom. "

" I read this to my first grade class. They really liked Twig's adventures. This author sure uses lots of imagination to create strange creatures. I liked the underlying story of Twig wondering who he is, where he came from, and finally realizing he does have a father. Very nicely done. "

" Beyond the deepwoods was filled with action. However, I felt it lacked character development. It was hard to really feel anything about those in the story. The ending did somewhat reconcile some of the poor character development. I thought it was just okay. "
