"After reading some pretty dark and serious books lately, I needed a quick, light read and Lorna Landvik is perfect for that. Enjoyed her "Patty Jane's House of Curl" a few years ago and this book is similar. Told from the viewpoints of five people...two married couples and the daughter of one of the couples...the title refers to a little club Dick built in his basement for the enjoyment of his friends. Some teen angst, a couple of affairs, a beating, a serious accident, doesn't make it sound like a 'light read' exactly, does it? But toss in some humor and simple lives in a small town and it is a pleasant and quick diversion of a read."

— Peggy, 2/12/2014 -
" She has written several great books, I don't know why this is the only one that slotted up but of you are fortunate enough to find a book by her, grab it! You will be in for a treat! "
— Jonna, 2/11/2014 -
" I have loved all the other Lorna Landvik books I've read to date. But this one left me feeling disappointed. Most of the characters had little in the way of redeeming qualities, so it was hard for me to have any empathy for them. Definitely not among my favorites. "
— Heather, 2/8/2014 -
" This is the third book I've read of hers. They are stand alone books. I've enjoyed them enough to search for her other books. "
— E, 2/5/2014 -
" The first few chapters of her books, it is hard to figure out who people are. I like how her characters aren't perfect but you still like them (most of them) "
— Sue, 2/5/2014 -
" Thoroughly enjoyed another Lorna Landvik novel (picked up 4 more at the library this afternoon). The end was one of those that left me with the impression that the author wasn't sure how to end it so she just ended it, right there. Yet, it worked. "
— Kimberly, 2/1/2014 -
" I love Landvik's books. This is a fun one, written in several voices, changing view point, chapter by chapter. "
— Angela, 1/23/2014 -
" Enjoyed to book, it is a quick read and an interesting story. "
— Drredman, 1/18/2014 -
" Characters are clever and offbeat but not developed in great depth. A light read. Fun but not memoriable. I just read the book and already had to glance through to remind myself of the characters. "
— Mary, 1/14/2014 -
" Even though I didn't love this as much as the two other Landvik books I've read, I'm still affectionate about it. Lorna Landvik's stories are my comfort food. I don't regret leaving Minnesota, but whenever I'm overwhelmed with irritation for New York City, her books are like a little hug from home. "
— Emily, 12/27/2013 -
" This one was okay, but certainly not one of Landvik's best. "
— Mindy, 12/11/2013 -
" I enjoyed this book very much, but it did take me a while to get in to it. I loved the character Darcey. She would be a wonderful kid to have around, so grown up for a 12 year old. "
— Mary, 12/4/2013 -
" I really enjoy the author, so I figured I'd try another one while laying poolside. Although this wasn't my favorite of hers, I still enjoyed it! "
— Erica, 11/28/2013 -
" So much fun to read this author. Really tells a good story "
— Cindy, 10/24/2013 -
" Another great book by Lorna Landvik. Written from 1st person perspective of several main characters. Easy read, kept my interest. "
— Judypyper, 10/16/2013 -
" It was ok,no where near as good as party's house of curl or angry housewives eating bonbons,I think it was because I just didn't like the characters as much.she tells the story like she always does you feel like you are there with her.i liked the children but not the adults.. "
— Sheri, 1/19/2013 -
" More unique characters than "Patty Jane's House of Curl", more immediate family drama, but also set in a small community of likable people. I liked the character of Franny the most. "
— Indra, 12/27/2012 -
" Another winner from Lorna Landvik! "
— Loretta, 12/13/2012 -
" This book did not seem up to par with Lorna Landviks other books. Some what a disappointment. "
— Mandy, 9/12/2012 -
" The darkest Landvik novel I've read. Both the story line and the characters were dark, neither of the main characters were very likeable, one is horrible to everyone she knows and the other has an affair. "
— Andi, 8/24/2012 -
" Glad I didn't read this Lorna Landvik book first because I wouldn't have ever wasted time on another. It looks like the other readers say the same - that this is not her best book. So, I'll probably try one more of her books, after I finish the other 100 or so on my to-do list. "
— Terry, 8/11/2012 -
" Another good LL book. The car chase was a little weird and upsetting. "
— Jackie, 8/6/2012 -

" Fast read! Entertaining. "
— Krista, 2/4/2012 -
" read quite a while ago, I always enjoy her stories "

" This was OK, but I enjoyed Oh My Stars more. It was the story of two families and each chapter was told by a different characters, so you hear the story in different voices. "

" Lorna Landvik's writing style reminds me of Fannie Flagg. Quirky characters and lots of humor. The characters are believable and their stories heartwarming. I loved the book. "

" I actually really enjoyed this book! The characters were fun and pretty fleshed out. The only complaint I have is just nit-picky. There was a letter written by a kid and the poor spelling was just too outrageous. I hate it when people try too hard to do things like that. Just a pet peeve. "
— Laura, 12/17/2009 -
" Didn't even finish it. I couldn't stand any of the characters. "
