About A. A. Milne

Alan Alexander Milne (1882–1956) was the son of a Scottish schoolmaster. Milne won a scholarship to Westminster School and later read mathematics at Cambridge. His real interest was in lighthearted writing; he edited the undergraduate magazine Granta and at twenty-four he became assistant editor of Punch. After serving as a signals officer in World War I he won additional acclaim as a playwright. His great success, however, came as a writer of children’s literature after publishing a series of verses about his young son Christopher Robin (When We Were Very Young and Now We Are Six). Following the acclaim received for the Winnie-the-Pooh books, Milne published several novels as well as an autobiography, It’s Too Late Now (1939).

About the Narrators

Finty Williams has worked extensively in theater, television, film, and audio. As a narrator, she has received multiple Earphones Awards and twice won the prestigious Audie Award for Best Narration. Her stage credits include The Secret Life of Charlie Chaplin, Northanger Abbey, and The Misanthrope, while on television she has been seen in Born and Bred, Tales from the Crypt, and The Torch. Her films include Gosford Park, The Importance of Being Earnest, and Mrs. Brown.

Geoffrey Palmer is a prominent actor known for his roles in British sitcoms, including The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin, Butterflies, and As Time Goes By. In 2004, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his longstanding services to acting and drama. 

Dame Judi Dench, one of the foremost actors of our day, has won numerous major awards for her work on both stage and screen, including an Academy Award, ten BAFTAs, and a record eight Laurence Olivier Awards. In recognition of her many achievements she received an OBE in 1970, became a DBE in 1988, and in 2005 was awarded a Companion of Honour.

Michael Williams (1935–2001), an English film, stage, and television actor, was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for best supporting actor in 2000 for his performance in The Forest. He acted alongside his wife, Dame Judi Dench, in several movies, including Dead Cert and The Comedy of Errors. In November 2000 he was appointed a knight of St. Gregory by Pope John Paul II.

Stephen Fry is an award-winning comedian, actor, presenter, and director. He rose to fame alongside Hugh Laurie in A Bit of Fry and Laurie (which he cowrote with Laurie) and Jeeves and Wooster and was unforgettable as General Melchett in Blackadder. He hosted over 180 episodes of QI and has narrated all seven of the Harry Potter novels for the audiobook recordings. In addition to his Greek Myths series, he is the bestselling author of The Ode Less Travelled, Fry’s Ties, four novels (Revenge, Making History, The Hippopotamus, and The Liar), and three volumes of autobiography (Moab Is My Washpot, The Fry Chronicles, and More Fool Me).

Aden Hakimi is a voice-over actor based in Brooklyn. He studied theater performance at Northeastern University in Boston, with adjunct studies at Cambridge University in England and the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin. For over a decade, he has done voice work for audiobooks, commercials, animation, and corporate videos.
