About the Authors
N. K. Jemisin is an American author who has won three consecutive Hugo Awards for Best Novel. Her work has also won the Nebula, Locus, and Goodreads Choice awards. She is a reviewer for the New York Times Book Review, and she has been an instructor for the Clarion and Clarion West writing workshops.
Charlie Jane Anders is the author of science fiction, young adult fantasy, mysteries, and more. Her works have been named a finalist for the Hugo Award, Nebula Award, and Arthur C. Clarke Award. Her TED Talk, “Go Ahead, Dream about the Future” got 700,000 views in its first week. With Annalee Newitz, she co-hosts the podcast Our Opinions Are Correct.
Sam J. Miller is a Nebula Award–winning author whose debut, The Art of Starving, was an NPR Best of the Year; his second novel, Blackfish City, was a Best Book of the Year for Vulture, The Washington Post, Barnes & Noble, and more, as well as a “Must-Read” in Entertainment Weekly and O: The Oprah Winfrey Magazine. A recipient of the Shirley Jackson Award and a graduate of the Clarion Writers’ Workshop, Miller’s work has been nominated for the World Fantasy, Theodore Sturgeon, John W. Campbell, and Locus Awards, and reprinted in dozens of anthologies. The last in a long line of butchers, he lives in New York City and at samjmiller.com.
Nisi Shawl is a writer of science fiction and fantasy short stories and a journalist. Her short stories have appeared in Asimov’s SF Magazine, Strange Horizons, and numerous other magazines and anthologies. She is the co-author with Cynthia Ward of Writing the Other: Bridging Cultural Differences for Successful Fiction.
Cary Hite has performed in several theaters across the country as a cast member in the longest-running African American play in history, The Diary of Black Men. He also appeared in Edward II, Fences, Macbeth, Good Boys, Side Effects May Vary, and the indie feature The City Is Mine. He has voiced several projects for AudibleKids, including Souls Look Back in Wonder, From Slave Ship to Freedom Road, and Papa, Do You Love Me?
James Fouhey is an actor and AudioFile Earphones Award–winning narrator living in New York City. He received classical training at Boston University and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. He has recorded more than 150 audiobooks across a variety of genres, including science fiction, romance, young adult fiction, and children’s fiction.
Karen Lord is an editor and author of several books, including the novel Redemption in Indigo, which won the Frank Collymore Literary Award, the Carl Brandon Parallax Award, the William L.
