Publisher Description
Not since Moby-Dick...No, not since Treasure Island...Actually, not since Jonah and the Whale has there been a sea saga to rival The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists, featuring the greatest sea-faring hero of all time, the immortal Pirate Captain, who, although he lives for months at a time at sea, somehow manages to keep his beard silky and in good condition.
Worried that his pirates are growing bored with a life of winking at pretty native ladies and trying to stick enough jellyfish together to make a bouncy castle, the Pirate Captain decides it's high time to spearhead an adventure.
While searching for some major pirate booty, he mistakenly attacks the young Charles Darwin's Beagle and then leads his ragtag crew from the exotic Galapagos Islands to the fog-filled streets of Victorian London. There they encounter grisly murder, vanishing ladies, radioactive elephants, and the Holy Ghost himself. And that's not even the half of it.

"because one can't only read poetry books, one should also read pirate books (at least for the foot notes. recipe for a top notch afternoon: 1. sneak into one well- manicured-fancy-flowered-fenced-in-backyard 2. read pirates book out loud with friends 3. guffaw at said pirate book and perhaps at the sad saps who are not in their yard to enjoy pirate book with your group 4 (optional) eat home made cornbread"

The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists Listener Reviews
-
" Short, funny and full of pirates and scientists. A model for what all books should be, really. "
— Nigel, 2/13/2014 -
" Must eat more ham. "
— Salvatore, 1/17/2014 -
" UGH. This book is truly awful. Within the first 5 pages every single pirate cliche is tritely used and then continues to be used page after page. It seems like the author did no research and just used cliches to wash the story. Very disappointing. "
— Tiffany, 1/15/2014 -
" All curls and teeth. "
— Nate, 1/3/2014 -
" short and slightly entertaining enough for me to try another one. "
— Bartley, 12/29/2013 -
" This is the funniest book I can remember reading in a long time. It's one that you cannot just read to yourself. You will want to read it out loud to anyone (with a sense of humor) within the sound of your voice. "
— Jan, 12/26/2013 -
" A very silly and delightful book. Nothing particularly well crafted, but good for an afternoon's giggles, particularly the utter mockery of real life scientific heroes. "
— Sarah, 9/14/2013 -
" Quick book, funny in a tongue-in-cheek way. Was it childish? Yes, but I really enjoyed it and didn't have to think about it. "
— Emmett, 8/23/2013 -
" A silly tale about some pirates, forming the loose basis for the movie of the same title (though re-named The Pirates! Band of Misfits in America). The book is a quick read with some wry humor, but I enjoyed the film more. "
— Violetta, 8/4/2013 -
" Humor runs thin, but probably would enjoy finishing. "
— Ron, 7/31/2013 -
" These books are just adorable. Want a super fast afternoon read? Love pirates? Love ham? This is for you! "
— James, 1/31/2013 -
" Morsom! :) "
— MÃ iri, 1/9/2013 -
" Fun, quick read, if you are in for a laugh. Same to be said about the other The Pirates! adventures. "
— Rachel, 12/1/2012 -
" Rather average, being neither as droll nor as charming as I'd hoped. Hard to pin point the target audience here, but points for the silliness. "
— Bookhuw, 10/22/2012 -
" What a glorious bit of nonsense! "
— Catriona, 9/22/2012 -
" This book was quite an enjoyable quick read. I loved getting lost in the captain's beautiful beard. And the hilarity that ensues when they meet up with Charles Darwin and his man-panzee Mister Bobo makes this book a must read for any Monty Python loving individual. "
— Mia, 9/18/2012 -
" Great cover. Quick read. Don't remember the story. "
— Carly, 9/1/2012 -
" Eating only lemon and orange Starburst instead of eating actual lemons and oranges will not protect against scurvy. And Pirates are really really funny. Everyone should read this book. Oh, and it also has Charles Darwin! Thus the scientists, you see. "
— Kristina, 8/22/2012 -
" Not as funny as I was hoping. It got funnier as it went along though. "
— Douglas, 5/26/2012 -
" This is the silliest book but I really enjoyed it. "
— jess, 4/30/2012 -
" A very funny book. I loved Defoe's sense of humor; a fast and enjoyable read. "
— Jill, 3/18/2012
