Publisher Description
Marcus Luttrell, author of the #1 bestseller Lone Survivor, share war stories about true American heroism from himself and other soldiers who bravely fought alongside him.
Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell returned from his star-crossed mission in Afghanistan with his bones shattered and his heart broken. So many had given their lives to save him -- and he would have readily done the same for them. As he recuperated, he wondered why he and others, from America's founding to today, had been willing to sacrifice everything-including themselves-for the sake of family, nation, and freedom.
In Service, we follow Marcus Luttrell to Iraq, where he returns to the battlefield as a member of SEAL Team 5 to help take on the most dangerous city in the world: Ramadi, the capital of war-torn Al Anbar Province. There, in six months of high-intensity urban combat, he would be part of what has been called the greatest victory in the history of U.S. Special Operations forces. We also return to Afghanistan and Operation Redwing, where Luttrell offers powerful new details about his miraculous rescue. Throughout, he reflects on what it really means to take on a higher calling, about the men he's seen lose their lives for their country, and the legacy of those who came and bled before.
A thrilling war story, Service is also a profoundly moving tribute to the warrior brotherhood, to the belief that nobody goes it alone, and no one will be left behind.

"A good book, continues where his other stopped at. He goes into more detail about his rescue talking about the men who came and got him. He also goes about the mission he went on after. It is amazing that he made it back, but he also talks abouts his struggles. What really got me was how he speaks of all of the different branches with respect, it is real there is no play with him he Honors all. That was great to read about. He also talk abouts the men and women who don't come home and the one's they are close too. He still speaks of operation Redwing. Then there are some stories at the end of the book, well will bring a tear to you. A good book by a HERO, to me they are all HERO'S, THANKS."

" Loved this book just as much as Lone Survivor. He explains what's going on in the Middle East in a way that my small brain can understand. "

" Marcus Luttrell was free with this book to provide more details of Operation Redwing. The book is so much more than that...it provides the reader with insight into the day-to-day life of warriors in Iraq, and Into the commitment and character of the finest men this nation has to offer. A compelling read, the title defines the work of its characters. Should be required reading by everyone in the Occupy Wall Street movement. "

" Read lone Survivor first, Luttrell's harrowing survival tale in Afghanistan. Then read this one to see how he pulls his life back together and honors his fallen teammates through his continued service. Luttrell also takes the time to recognize other heros and heir families. "

" An emotional follow up to "Lone Survivor." This book not only serves as a window into the brotherhood that SEALs share, but one that is shared by all men in uniform and the families they leave behind. "

" A terrific view of the SEAL lifestyle and mindset. "
— Max, 1/29/2014 -
" These books have brought sorrow, laughter but mostly an overall realism that our jobs/careers are nothing compared to what these true warriors do on a day to day basis. I am extremely humbled to have read both "Lone Survivor" and "Service". Two of the best books I have ever read, and if they came out at the same time I would say the writing in "Service" is better, but you cannot compare the past to the present. Marcus Luttrell, and all who have fought with, for or under his command are true heroes. Not to mention the thousands that still continue and the tens of thousands that came before him. Strongly recommended. "

" Not as exciting to read as his first book "Lone Survivor". Still an interesting read for a look into the life of some of the warriors and their wives who give up so much for the rest of us. "
— Darin, 1/16/2014 -
" Not as good as lone survivor but that is a very tough book to beat. Still a great read and moving story. "
— Randy, 1/13/2014 -
" Though, in my opinion, Not as good as his first, it was still an intriguing read. Before Mark Lutrell's books I never read a military book, and after they really make one think about what our soldiers go through over there. "

" I enjoyed this book. This book covered many areas, but was good in that it described some of the daily challenges faced by our troops. I gained a greater appreciation for what they endure. "

" Great pictures of the sacrifice of our service members. The chapter on military wives is worth the price of the book alone! "

" A good follow up to the lone survivor. "
— Randy, 5/30/2013 -
" Continued reading about Marcus Luttrell and his life after Operation Redwing. Even though his injuries would have retired many, he chose to heal up as best he could then head down range to be with his teammates. It is a standard in the Teams. Great book to read after "The Lone Survivor" "
— James, 3/19/2013 -
" Marcus Luttrell is inspiring. Both of his books are gut wrenching personal looks inside the Global War on Terror the military is fighting on our behalf. "
— Jeff, 3/13/2013 -

" I really liked this book. Having a husband and brother who served in the Navy, and a nephew currently serving, I appreciate the sacrifices they go through to keep our country the great place it is. I heard Marcus speak in San Diego in October 2010, and I just wish everyone was as patriotic as he is! "
