Join beloved Bible teacher Margaret Feinberg as you learn how to move from simply reading Scripture to entering stories that can be touched, tasted, smelled, and savored.
The Bible is full of clever plots and compelling stories, laced with historic insights and literary beauty. But despite its richness and depth, many of us struggle to close the gap between the ancient world and our own.
What does it mean to know that Jesus is the Good Shepherd when the only place you've encountered sheep is at a petting zoo? How can you understand the promise of a land overflowing with honey when you buy yours in a bear-shaped bottle? Can you truly grasp the urgency of Jesus' invitation to abide in the vine when you shop for grapes at a local grocery store?
In Scouting the Divine, Margaret invites you to accompany her on the adventure of a lifetime across the nation to herd sheep in Oregon, harvest fields with a Nebraska farmer, prune vines in California, and explore hives with a veteran beekeeper in Colorado. Along the way, you'll explore how ancient livelihoods illuminate meaningful truths that apply to life today.
With Margaret's trademark humor and vulnerability, you'll:
Scouting the Divine will revolutionize the way you understand the Bible--and leave you wonderstruck by the magnificence of God.

"Great new perspective. She is more of a story teller than a fact-finder, but you get both. I appreciate her desire to know who God is by digging into his parables. I can honestly say that my own view of God (because of my background, environment, personality, what have you) was broadened. "

" This book is okay. It isn't exceptionally spiritual because it's mostly a narrative of the author's travels and daily life while spending time with sheep or bees. There are a couple of spiritual references, but most of them are shallow. "
— Rachel, 2/14/2014" This is the kind of book I want to read over and over and over again because it is so meaty and so useful! "
— Bethany, 2/4/2014" What a wonderful job this author has done with taking the bible stories and making them relevent, entertaining, and applicable. "
— Roma, 11/26/2013" Entertaining and interesting, but theologically and agriculturally on the soppy side. Two stars as a Yay for anything with sheep and honeybees in the same book as written by a Christian; three stars off for being overly saccharine and for trying, blog-like, to be deep and failing. "
— Alyssa, 11/19/2013" Loved this book! My favorite part was the one on sheep. "
— Jennifer, 10/21/2013" Great book. Definitely adding to my must keep collection. It allows you to read the scriptures in a whole knew way and therefore rejuvenates your desire to pursue God. Will definitely be looking for more by MF. "
— carabellisima, 9/30/2013" Easy read. Really enjoyed Margaret's journey to really make Scriptures come alive. "
— Faith, 9/25/2013" A fun read. Feinberg's writing style is engaging and primarily storytelling mixed with personal reflection. Her journeys to learn from a shepherdess, a farmer, a beekeeper and a vintner are paired with reflection on passages in Scripture dealing with sheep, harvests, honey ad wine. "
— Karen, 8/9/2013" I really only loved the section on the shepherd...I think the rest was bit too light and fluffy. "
— Stephanie, 7/16/2013" Fantastic! My new fav ... really! "
— Amy, 6/28/2013" Enlightening insights to Biblical imagery: sheep/shepherd, farming, milk & honey, vineyard/vine dresser... "
— Carol, 6/22/2013" An interesting read that brought this 21st century suburbanite a little closer to the Great Shepherd of my soul. "
— Tom, 4/11/2013" I thought there was a lot of insight in this book, and really enjoyed reading it. I'd recommend it! However, some of her research seemed like a bit of a stretch; the book started out great and kind of went downhill. By the last chapter, I was glad to be done. "
— Lauren, 3/25/2013" Gave me a new perspective on God's word. What a blessing. Would like to do the study. "
— Nikki, 3/10/2013" Truly enjoyed this book! It gave me tremendous insight into some scriptural images that I've read for years but never appreciated at this level or depth. Highly recommended! "
— John, 2/1/2013" I'm maybe 2/3 of the way through, and I'm not going to finish. It's too bad b/c I really love the concept of the book, but it's just poorly executed. It's sloppy. Bummer. "
— Sarah, 1/11/2013" Margaret Feinberg's understanding of the sheep/shepherd relationship is the best I have read! "
— Susan, 11/8/2012" Loved it!!! Brought so much meaning and life to those things we take for granted. Loved reading how she compared Biblical truths and stories with everyday real life experiences. Everyone needs to read this book! "

— Sarah, 9/21/2011" I loved this book! So insightful. "
