" If you've ever thought "this fantasy story could really use more completely arbitrary numbers" or wondered "why is it that storybook mages never min-max their spells like real TTRPG players do?", you might enjoy this book. Beyond the walls of stat blocks, the story is okay but not amazing. It definitely veers into male-wish-fulfillment territory more often than not. The narration is decent, though. There's a kernel of a good story buried deep in there ... but I admit I don't have the patience to wade through the sequels to maybe get the payoff. "
