The narrative reflects many social views of the time, some of which may be considered unacceptable today, but the author’s writing brings a real-life and identifiable cheerfulness in his characters. His expectation that a person’s better qualities will eventually find expression remains engaging to the reader of today.

About Louis Stone
Louis Stone (1871–1935) was born in Leicester England and thirteen years later came to Australia with his parents in 1884, moving to Sydney the following year. He became a teacher, eventually holding a position at Sydney Boy’s High School. He was also considered a fine musician and playwright.
About Gregory Dwyer
Gregory Dwyer is a New Zealand–born Australian voice actor. He spent twenty-four years working internationally in theatre, film, television, and radio before a hiatus of twenty-two years, eighteen of which was spent as a Forensic Crime Scene Examiner. Now, he has returned to performing as a voice actor specializing in audiobooks.
