I didn't give up on it though, and the action started to pick up after the first several chapters. The action between the characters was somewhat confusing which is why I let it sit for a while. It turns out that the main character, the sheriff, has been featured in previous books. Thus some of the confusion. " This is my second book for adults by Pearson. I've read his books for young people and did enjoy those! I even caught the veiled reference to them in this book, but adult readers not aware of that series would have passed over the comment without realization. I also enjoyed the way he brought in two characters from the only other of his adult books that I have read. He provided an interesting glimse into life far different from what the majority of us experience. "

Pearson has done a nice job developing the Fleming character, flaws and all. The book is fast-paced, a quick read - good choice for a day or so at the beach. The setting is Sun Valley (other books in the series have touched more on the divide between the very wealthy visitors and the full time residents) which now occupies a place on my "To Visit Someday" list. "
