The ultimate guide that will teach you how to prepare for disaster—including how to stock your shelves, secure your home, and more.
Disruptive elections. A pandemic. Global financial collapse. A terrorist attack. A natural catastrophe. All it takes is one event to disrupt our way of life. We could find ourselves facing myriad serious problems from massive unemployment to a food shortage to an infrastructure failure that cuts off our power or water supply. If something terrible happens, we won’t be able to rely on the government or our communities. We’ll have to take care of ourselves.
In How to Survive the End of the World as We Know It, James Rawles, founder of SurvivalBlog.com, clearly explains everything you need to know to protect yourself and your family in the event of a disaster—from radical currency devaluation to a nuclear threat to a hurricane. Rawles shares essential tactics and techniques for surviving completely on your own, including how much food is enough, how to filter rainwater, how to protect your money, which seeds to buy for your garden, why goats are a smart choice for livestock, and how to secure your home.

"Rawles writes simply and directly, and his words are smooth as the butter he says we should store for the end of the world. Though I disagree with his somewhat pessimistic believe in man's behavior should some world ending disaster strike, I do like some of his views on being prepared and ready to take care of yourself, your family, and your responsibilities starting with very basic skills. It was entertaining though, and Rawles seems like he'd be an interesting guy to have a dinner with, though I suspect he'd end up on some kind of naive conspiracy theory that would make me skip dessert."

— Gary, 1/28/2014" Patriots is a better book, but this is also a good book for those that want to be prepared for disasters and the like. This isn't just for survivialist types either...it will help you plan for natural disasters and other "less controversial" issues. "

— Leighann, 1/16/2014" This is a concise book full of all the information anyone might need in the coming years. What's great is that it doesn't go into ponderous details but just highlights what you should be thinking about and points you in the right direction for more information. "
— Greg, 1/16/2014" I gave this three stars because this was more of a fun read for me. I really did not take it seriously. But if the end was near I'm some what prepared now! "

— Jeff, 7/29/2010" If you're going to read one book on the more extreme side of preparedness...this should be it. It's an intro, but a pretty darn complete one. Just the initial "hook" or an intro is enough of a reason to pick it up at the book store. ;) "
