Publisher Description

The monstrous power of one of Shakespeare's most memorable characters, Richard Plantagenet, emerges in Henry VI, Part 3, a portent of things to come.

The Yorkists have been temporarily victorious and the Duke of York has assumed the throne, but the Lancastrians, led by Queen Margaret, counter-attack. As the fortunes of war shift, both the innocent and the guilty are swept up in the maelstrom. And increasingly dominant amid the chaos is the sinister figure of the crook-backed Richard, Duke of Gloucester.

David Tennant plays Henry VI, and Kelly Hunter plays Queen Margaret. Clive Merrison is the Duke of York, Stephen Boxer is Edward IV, and John Bowe is Warwick. Richard of Gloucester is played by David Troughton.

“Besides the powerful David Tennant performing the title role, supporting cast members are all impressive. Listeners can look forward to Kelly Hunter as Queen Margaret, played with energetic ruthlessness, as well as Clive Merrison’s ambitious Duke of York. Any one of the Arkangel recordings is well worth collecting, and this is no exception.”

About William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare (1564–1616), English poet and dramatist of the Elizabethan and early Jacobean period, is the most widely known author in all of English literature and often considered the greatest. He was an active member of a theater company for at least twenty years, during which time he wrote many great plays. Plays were not prized as literature at the time and Shakespeare was not widely read until the middle of the eighteenth century, when a great upsurge of interest in his works began that continues today.

About the Narrators

Bleak December Inc. is a multimedia company founded by Canadian actor and filmmaker Anthony D.P. Mann.

Clive Merrison is a film, stage, and television actor who has performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre, and the Old Vic. He and Michael Williams are the only acting duo to have completed the entire canon of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories.

David Tennant, Earphones Award-winning narrator, is a Scottish actor who, over twenty years, has starred on stage, screen, television, and radio. In 2008 he played a widely praised Hamlet for the Royal Shakespeare Company but is probably best known for his role as the tenth incarnation of the Doctor in Doctor Who, along with the title role in the 2005 television serial Casanova and as Barty Crouch Jr. in the 2005 film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. On stage he has played Benedick in Much Ado about Nothing, as well as the title roles in Hamlet and Richard II.

David Troughton is an English actor who is known for his Shakespearean roles on the British stage and for his many roles on British television, including Dr. Bob Buzzard in A Very Peculiar Practice and Ricky Hanson in New Tricks. He lives in London with his wife, Ali.

Stephen Boxer is an English actor who is best known for his role as Joe on the BBC One soap opera Doctors. Aside from television, Boxer has had starring roles in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s productions of Titus Andronicus and King Lear, and has narrated the audiobook versions of Shakespeare’s Henry VI and Pat Barker’s Noonday.
