About the Authors

Naomi Alderman is the bestselling author of several books, including The Power, which won the Women’s Prize for Fiction and was chosen as a book of the year by the New York Times, Washington Post, and the Los Angeles Times and was recommended as a book of the year by both Barack Obama and Bill Gates. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and a professor of creative writing at Bath Spa University.

Yiyun Li is the author of several works of fiction and the memoir Dear Friend, from My Life I Write to You in Your Life. She is the recipient of many awards, including the PEN/Malamud Award, the PEN/Hemingway Award, the PEN/Jean Stein Book Award, a MacArthur Fellowship, and a Windham-Campbell Prize. Her work has also appeared in the New Yorker, A Public Space, The Best American Short Stories, and The PEN/O. Henry Prize Stories, among other publications. She teaches at Princeton University.

Ali Smith is the author of many works of fiction, which won many awards, including the Women’s Prize for Fiction, the Goldsmiths Prize, and the Costa Novel of the Year Award. Her work has four times been shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize. 

Holter Graham, winner of three of AudioFile magazine’s Best Voice of the Year awards, is a stage, television, and screen actor. He has recorded numerous audiobooks and earned multiple AudioFile Earphones Awards. As an actor, his film credits include Fly Away Home, Maximum Overdrive, Hairspray, and The Diversion, a short film which he acted in and produced. On television, he has appeared in Army Wives, Damages, As the World Turns, Rescue Me, Law & Order, and New York Undercover. He received a BA degree from Skidmore College and an MFA from Vermont College.

Helen Oyeyemi was born in Nigeria and raised in London. She is the author of The Icarus Girl, which was completed before her nineteenth birthday, The Opposite House, which was a nominee for the 2008 Hurston/Wright Legacy Award, and White Is for Witching, which won the 2010 Somerset Maugham Award.

Joshua Cohen is an author whose books include The Netanyahus, winner of the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. He has also won Israel’s 2013 Matanel Prize for Jewish Writers, and in 2017 he was named one of Granta’s Best Young American Novelists. He was born in 1980 in Atlantic City.

Elif Batuman is an author whose first novel, The Idiot, was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize and was shortlisted for the Women's Prize for Fiction. She is also the author of The Possessed: Adventures with Russian Books and the People Who Read Them, which was a finalist for a National Book Critics Circle Award in criticism. She has been a staff writer at the New Yorker since 2010 and holds a PhD in comparative literature from Stanford University.

Tommy Orange is the author of several books, including There There, a finalist for the 2019 Pulitzer Prize and winner of the 2019 American Book Award. He is an enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma. He is a graduate from the MFA degree program at the Institute of American Indian Arts. He is a 2014 MacDowell Fellow and a 2016 Writing by Writers Fellow.
