"This book was not what I expected in the least! It took me awhile to get into it, but once I got the hang of it, I was totally engrossed. It is like Harry Potter meets Lord of the Rings meets Twilight and then all gets balled up into a more adult scary version of sci-fi. Great read! "

Quotes

  • “Two master craftsmen, each at the top of his game. Hugely pleasurable.”

    — Washington Post Book World
  • “Bloody good…This partnership brings out both authors’ strengths—King’s down-and-dirty storytelling and Straub’s more sweeping literary style…What a ride it is.”

    — Entertainment Weekly
  • “Like fine tailors, King and Straub weave their distinct voices together to create an almost seamless…tale of suspense…Builds with a slow, seductive momentum that explodes like firecrackers in a beer can…A wild, fantastical romp.”

    — Barnes & Noble, editorial review
  • “A brilliant and challenging dark fantasy…There’s so much to revel in, from expertly executed sequences of terror, awe, or passion—the novel is a deep reservoir of genuine emotion…A high point in both the King and Straub canons.”

    — Publishers Weekly (starred review)
  • “Muller’s finest gift to audio must be his uncanny ability to sense, develop, and portray dozens of complex human and inhuman personalities in a single production. Muller has fun with some, condemns others, and renders even the bit players unforgettable. All of them dance to the seductive music of his lyrical narrative, which invites us into the party as well.”

" I was disappointed with this book. I found it hard to get into, and was possibly, expecting too much, after all, "The Talisman", it's predecessor, was such an amazing read. After about 1/2 way into "Black House" I began to enjoy the story, but in the end, I could've done without. "

" This is an impressive novel for two reasons: it is a sequel to a novel with great weight (The Talisman) and it explores themes present throughout King's works (especially The Dark Tower; Roland is mentioned in passing). When combined that it is also a good read, that's a win. "
