Publisher Description

The authors of the #1 New York Times bestseller The Nanny Diaries take “an unflinching look at the price of fame” (Booklist) in this story of a young woman trying to escape her ambitious family.

Growing up in small-town Oklahoma, cousins Logan and Kelsey Wade were raised like sisters. Rarely separated, they became each other’s lifelines, escaping into the small joys of childhood to survive the increasing chaos in their family. Then one day Logan woke up and Kelsey and her parents were gone.

Years later, Kelsey has been propelled by her relentless parents to mega-stardom, her voice a radio fixture and her face on billboards worldwide. Meanwhile, Logan is trying to carve out her own life in New York City despite the constant reminders of her cousin’s absence. Though she has long since stopped trying to solve the mystery of their last hours together, the inexplicably fractured memories haunt her.

Then on Logan’s twenty-seventh birthday, she gets the call that she’s been longing for—and dreading. Before she can second-guess herself, she’s on a plane to L.A. to reunite with Kelsey and the parents who ripped them apart, but Logan will soon learn that some family secrets are kept hidden for a reason.

"I think at one point or another in the book I both loved and hated every character in this book. There are definitely parts that remind you of watching someone's life unfold on E!News, but at the same time it makes you think about what a celebrities life may actually be like. This book was a perfect mix of chic-lit & Hollywood gossip. I found it hard to put down and read through it very quickly. A good summer read!"

    — Hollywood Reporter
  • “Pop culture aficionados will see plenty of parallels to Britney Spears’ meteoric rise and downward spiral in Kelsey’s story, and they’ll enjoy McLaughlin and Kraus’ unflinching look at the price of fame.”

" I was enjoying this book until it took an extreme left into Britneyville. It was if the authors took "Nanny" from their novel 'The Nanny Diaries' and made her Britney Spears' caretaker. They literally lifted episodes from Britney's breakdown period and put them into the story. I found this to be lazy and unoriginal. "

" This was a compelling and heart breaking tale of celebrity at a young age, and how the outside world misreads the glimpses it sees of celebrities' private lives. I couldn't wait to finish this, and was sad that there was no more. "

" I found this book sad more than anything else. Sad and depressing and way more so than anything in the Nanny Diaries. It's a quick read, and if you like the authors' previous work, it won't take you very long. Personally, I don't think it's much to write home about. "

" A good beach read. Moves quickly and draws you in. I found myself rooting for Logan and Kelsey to figure it out and "fix" things. I was so disappointed at the outcome and I couldn't help thinking of Britney Spears and her screwed up life. As I'm sure the author meant for me to feel. "

" I really liked this book. It was a dark dishy look at celebrity. Not sure I would want to be a celebrity. It reminded me a lot of what Britney Spears went through. It's a great beach read. I hope there's a sequel. I want to find out what happens to Kelsey. "

" I read this as an ARC, and it was ok. I was not a huge fan of this book. I can see this being popular with people who read Chick Lit and are addicted to MTV. The characters were not very believable and the pacing was weird. Overall, not a huge fan, but it could have been a lot worse. "

" Fun read, but a very obvious fictionalized account of Britney Spear's life. Honestly the authors should be embarrassed about their lack of creativity! "
