Publisher Description

Isabel Spellman may have a checkered past littered with romantic mistakes, excessive drinking, and creative vandalism -- but she's good at her job as a licensed P.I. with her family's firm, Spellman Investigations. Invading people's privacy comes naturally to Izzy and all the Spellmans. If only they could leave their work at the office. Izzy walks an indistinguishable line between Spellman family member and Spellman employee. But when Izzy decides to get out of the family business in search of normalcy, she ends up taking on the most important case of her life. The Spellman Files is an unforgettable introduction to the Spellman family in all its lovable chaos.

"A hilarious read. The iconic image of the private eye is generally a male loner who lives by a code of honor and avoids close emotional connections. Here, we have an entire family of private investigators who investigate each other as much as they do on behalf of their clients. The primary protagonist is Isabel Spellman, who works for her parents' private investigation agency (while also trying to dodge their attempts to tail her on occasion). Looking forward to reading the other books in the series."

" I decided to check out Lisa's solo books after liking Heads You Lose, which she collaborated on with an ex-boyfriend, with each of them writing every other chapter. I didn't care for this nearly as much, it seemed to plod along, with many unnecessary, mundane dysfunctional family background details and the protagonist's failed relationships. I didn't find it particularly funny. The main mystery element didn't surface until a couple hundred pages in - if you stripped out the fluff it would be a much shorter book. Towards the end the protagonist ironically states "I won't bore you with the rest of the conversation." Too late...why stop now? I won't be continuing with the series. "

" Loved this book! The only reason I gave it a 4 was because there is language and drug and drunkedness, all written in a way that just makes Izzy look the fool.. But it was hilarious, wonderfully entertaining!I'm completely hooked on these books now! "

" Loved the main character, didn't really like the structure in that the story starts at the end and the entire way hints at a terrible tragedy about to occur, which spoils the fun tone of the novel. I think I'll enjoy reading the other books in the series though. "
