He earned graduate degrees in medieval philosophy and theology and received his PhD in English from Louisiana State University. He spent thirty years living and working with the Jesuits in the Northwest and Louisiana. His portrait of his main character with all his conflicts and beliefs comes from living O’Dea’s deep involvement with the Catholic faith.
