His books include a history of the Glasgow Citizens Theatre and biographies of Maggie Smith, Mike Leigh, and Andrew Lloyd Webber. He regularly contributes to the Independent, Guardian, Observer, New Statesman, Prospect, and BBC Radio’s Front Row. He lives in England.
