Eliam Kraiem received a playwriting degree from the California Institute of the Arts in 1996. From there, he went on to win the Fourth Freedom Playwriting Award along with a grant from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre festival for his play Sixteen Wounded. The play opened on Broadway in 2004, starring two-time Tony winner Judd Hirsch and directed by Tony winner Gary Hynes. Sixteen Wounded has garnered one Tony nomination, two Drama League nominations, and three Outer Critics Circle Award.
