Dan Cushman Audio Books

Dan Cushman (1909–2001) was born in Osceola County, Michigan, and grew up on the Cree Indian reservation in Montana. Graduating from the University of Montana with a Bachelor of Science degree, he worked first as a miner, prospector, and geologist before becoming a full-time writer. He wrote more than thirty novels, but he is best remembered for Stay Away, Joe, which was a Book-of-the Month Club selection and the basis for the Broadway musical Whoop-Up. It also became an MGM motion picture starring Elvis Presley. He also wrote numerous books of nonfiction, including Montana: The Gold Frontier and The Great North Trail. His awards include the Western Writers of America Spur Award for The Silver Mountain, the H. G. Merriam Award for distinguished contributions to Montana literature, and the Governor’s Humanities Award from the Montana Committee for the Humanities.
