Charles Jackson (1903–1968) grew up in Newark, New York and is the author of several novels including The Fall of Valor, The Outer Edges, and his best-seller The Lost Weekend, which sold half a million copies, was translated into fourteen languages, and was adapted into an Academy Award-winning film. Jackson struggled with debilitating addiction for much of his life; he died of an overdose of Seconal in 1968.
