Kate Winslet reads the first riotously funny book in the Mr Gum series by Andy Stanton. Good evening. Mr Gum is a complete horror who hates children, animals, fun, and corn on the cob. "What a funny book! I was chuckling throughout this silly story. It's about this mean old man, Mr. Gumm, who has to maintain his garden or an angry fairy will appear and whack his head with a frying pan. A loveable large dog starts to romp around his garden and Mr. Gumm has to think of a way to gid rid of this dog, to help stop the fairy from whacking him with the pan! It's a short fast read and very funny!"

" Read this in manuscript on the plane back from Frankfurt and laughed so loudly and so often that I was asked to be quiet by the attendants. As if Monty Python wrote books for nine-year-olds. Just so damned funny. "

" ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS EVER!!!! Not only is it hilariously self-deprecating, but it is paced well and its a darn good plot. "

" I picked this book up from the library as a bit of fun. I've heard many good things about it and thought I'd give it a try. In all it took me about 30 minutes to read as its aimed at children with large font and illustrations. I thought the story was ok and I can fully understand why children enjoy it so much. It reminds me of Roald Dahl in many ways, especially how it depicted the characters. However I didn't like that the book failed to use proper english and sentence structure in parts. I know this is simply the adult in me, and that children will not pick up on these details but I personally felt the story would have worked just the same if written correctly. On a positive note the story is funny in parts and I enjoyed reading it. I think it will be especially appealing to boys who love to get dirty. "

" Fans of Snicket and Dahl will likely find some giggles here, although I don't feel this one will stand the test of time as well. Funny and melodramatic. "

" if only crafty tom had made an appearance, this book would have gotten five stars from me. so take note, aspiring authors: put dinosaurs in your book (especially if they don't really belong there), and get a good review from me. "

" A cute, silly book. Sometimes Stanton's writing reminded me of Lemony Snicket. It was a very quick read and was goofy. I might get around to reading the rest of the books in the series. "
