Publisher Description

Texas girl Babe Didrikson never tried a sport too tough and never met a hurdle too high. Despite attempts to keep women from competing, Babe achieved All-American status in basketball and won gold medals in track and field at the 1932 Olympics. Then, Babe attempted to conquer golf. One of the founders of the LPGA, Babe won more consecutive tournaments than any golfer in history.

At the height of her fame, she was diagnosed with cancer. Babe would then take her most daring step of all: go public and try to win again with the hope of inspiring the world. A rollicking saga, stretching across the first half of the 20th century, Wonder Girl is as fresh, heartfelt, and graceful as Babe herself.

"I listened to this as an audio book. Hillary Huber is a wonderful reader. The story is a long one to listen to but a fascinating story's of a female athlete who paved the way for female athletes to play sports other than just "ladylike" ones- and to compete in the Olympics. Babe was a colorful character and often difficult but she blazed the trail."

" A very interesting look at the life and career of Babe Didrikson. Incredible focus as an athlete, but personality flaws that the author is not afraid to show us, as well. "

" I enjoyed this book. To say that Babe was a 'character' is an understatement but you cannot dispute her athletic abilities especially at a time when women in sports was a rarity. You golfers should read this. She was a founder of the LPGA and was a tremendous golfer. "

" have never been interested in golf, this taught me nothing about it... but it was interesting reading about a woman who wasn't afraid to challenge stereotypes... "

" The book was well written, well researched, and documented. The author did a good job covering this complicated and sometimes difficult woman. I appreciate that he addressed some of the more controversial aspects of her life without seeming exploitative or salacious. "

" I did some skimming, because there was just too much detail about the golf part of her career. But overall, her story is amazing. She was a very, very tough cookie and decades ahead of her time in her attitude toward competition, whether against herself, women or men. "
