Publisher Description

Never has Mallory faced as many surprises as in the case before her now. It seems cut-and-dried at first: a burglar has been caught in the act and killed by an ice pick-wielding homeowner. Except that the homeowner turns out to be the most famous lost child in NYPD history, missing for almost sixty years, thought to have been kidnapped following the massacre of her family: five siblings, father, stepmother, nanny, and housekeeper—nearly the entire household wiped out … with an ice pick.

Filled with the intricate plotting and extraordinary characterization that are O'Connell's hallmarks, Winter House is her most powerful—and most astonishing—novel yet.

"As always Mallory's world is filled with interesting characters and plot twists that have you turning pages as fast as you can. I found my self anticipating the next revelation only to find that what I thought I was sure of wasn't exactly correct. I love the interplay between characters, the almost humanization others try to attribute to Mallory. I passed the book on to my daughter, wow what an introduction to Mallory huh? She is now reading all the previous books. An engaging "what happens next?" story that I enjoyed completely."

" Oh, dear God. Why does Carol O'Connell not just ensure that the words "Katherine Mallory - she's damaged and dangerous" are engraved as a header or footer on every page of this novel JUST IN CASE we've been too dumb to get the message. "

" I'm not a big fan of mystery books, but I do enjoy the lead character in this series. Okay, so she's a sociopathic cop who can make you feel like a mouse confronted by a cobra, but hey, what's not to like? "

" Ammetto che in questo periodo ho poco tempo e molti problemi, per cui non dedico alla lettura una grande attenzione. Tuttavia, questo "giallo" fa abbastanza "schifo" e riesce ad annoiare non poco: trama inverosimile, personaggi mal delineati, linguaggio pessimo. Tempo e soldi sprecati. "
