Publisher Description

The president's retreat, Camp David, is one of the safest places in the United States. So why can't the President's son, Luke, and his friends Theo and Callie stay there without Secret Service agents constantly hovering over them, watching their every move? And yet, when an earthquake sets off a raging wildfire, causing a chain reaction that wreaks havoc at Camp David, they are suddenly on their own.

Now Luke needs a plan:

  • To override the security systems
  • To save those who were supposed to save him
  • To get through an impassable gate
  • To escape Camp David

Debut author Dee Garretson delivers a heart-pounding tween thriller—an action-packed adventure with undeniable suspense.

"Dee Garretson show a fine feel for thrilling action as she shows three kids--including the president's somewhat spoiled son, Luke--using all their wits to escape the high security at Camp David before they are trapped in by a wildfire. "

Quotes

  • “Recommend this to fans of T. S. Fields’s Danger in the Desert  and Gary Paulsen’s Hatchet. An accessible story with lots of action.”

    — School Library Journal
  • “Along with a breathlessly paced plot, Garretson crafts a preteen protagonist who grows out of being a whiny, moody sort and, with his companions, displays generous measures of courage and ingenuity in rising to the occasion.”

    — Booklist
  • “This gadget-filled thriller is expressly calculated to hit the sweet spot for middle-grade readers who like their survival literature laced with technology.”

    — Kirkus Reviews
