"I had a bit of trouble getting into this book. I read a lot, but this book taught me that there are still a lot of words that I just don't know yet! I'm not sure how many of them were real, and how many were made up, but I felt that, especially in the beginning, I spent a lot of time just trying to sound out words and figure out what they meant. Eventually, though, the story itself took over and I found myself in the rare position of empathizing with a character I've loathed since childhood, Oz's Wicked Witch of the West. Reading this book reminded me that there are always two sides to a story, and even though you think you know all you need to know about a person based on how they look or how they behave, the truth is they have had an entire life that you probably are not privy to, so don't judge. I was really sad to see her go."

" I liked this story overall. It was an interesting take on the classic Wizard Of Oz story. I was surprised that it actually lead up to Dorothy's arrival in Oz. I was also surprised at how "adult" the book was. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but a sex-scene with the Wicked Witch of the West was a surprise. It wasn't perfect, but it was a lot of fun. "

" as a fifth grader I enjoyed this book, but was lost in the preachy politics. I have tried to read it again and found the same thing to be true. Additionally, on the second read through the imagery felt dry and off putting. THis may have been purposeful, but did not leave me wanting more. "

" So...if you're interested in this book, might I refer you to the very good play that was based on this book. It is a much better story and much cleaner. There was enough that was interesting in the book that I finished the book, but I won't continue with the series. "
